What 'tune' did you have? I am not an expert but I have read of a lot of tunes hurting engins. Keep us posted. I wish you a lot of luck with this problem.
Yes, years a go. I got a all aluminum tank from Jan with a real thermostat cap. I have not had any issues with it.
If a tune is done wrong it could burn valves. But twice that fast? I would think it would take a piston with it too. I can't help but wonder if the dealer did the job right or cut corners. Like @Goldsmithy said what tune do you have, also what other mods do you have?
I don't know that they cut corners intentionally, I do think something was overlooked though. It's got a Frankenturbo-slightly larger than stock, and a tune by Etuners. They are worldwide and do a ton of tunes-especially this engine, as it's the owners, and seem to really know their stuff. It is only meant to work with the turbo better, not aggressive at all, not overriding any stock systems/sensors. Otherwise the car is stock. I sent of logs to them after the first valve went and monitored things. They assured me there was no chance the tune could have caused that. AF ratio has been spot on as well. The car is very well looked after and not abused, driven spirited at times, but certainly not flogged. Sorry-don't want to hijack this thread-really just venting frustration with the first post.
That's the one I'm talking about, I remember Colin is the one who noticed that under load the engine was bumping into the coil/plug boot and something was shorting out. Just wondered if you put a smaller one on since the Dragon this year.
Today I added a new sticker to my car. I'm not to big on stickers, but this one hits home. It'sPhuckancer.com. If anyone else wants to add one to their car in honor of cancer victums, let me know and I'll send you one
It was not the coil feed wire or overflow tank as we first thought. It turned out to be my Innovative wide band O2 was starting to die. I replaced it when I got home and all has been good ever since. Simple $92.00 fix as wide band O2’s don’t last forever and it was over 5 years old.
^^^ that’s awesome. Today I took my MINI out warmed her up and took here out for a drive to run a few errands. Maybe she will get a wash this weekend, who knows.
Filled her up on the way to the city this AM. Got to whiteness an attempted car jacking of a new Infinity coupe, complete with a pistol in hand and everything. Luckily the lady was smart and locked her doors when filling up. The would be robber got back into the car he got out of and they took off quietly. Was kinda insane to see, I just stood there staring at him. Then I grabbed my fob out the car and locked my doors
Yesterday I washed my car and put in back in the garage. I am starting to detail for the 'Cavalcade of Customs' in January. Still, have to install Reddline pedals, diamond plate floor mats and trunk pad, clean up the gauge wiring, install puddle lights, put in an accessory circuit Which will be independent of the stock harness, install 'red' neon light under the hood, change the upper radiator hoses, and a few other things. At least it will keep me off the streets...
Yesterday we had 66 degrees & sun. Wow justa like spring. I took the opportunity to give Skooby the deep cleaning & detailing it sorely needed. Inside & out! Today as Babs backed out of the garage I found oil under where it was parked. Looks like a crank seal. Doh! Off to Best tomorrow to have that replaced.
Engine mount number 3 has leaked. They seem to last 4 to 5 years. Good thing they are not all that expensive.
I have always wondered if you could retro fit the old style mount that is on my 02 it is way better. They last a very very long time. They aye rubber with a torque mount also. Much better system. I am sure it cost more that is why MINI got rid of it.
I had a couple of those replaced on my R53. Figured it was just part of the cost of having such a fun car.
