It was unusual circumstances that caused me to have the dealer do the head work. Normally I would have my regular mechanic or myself do it. They did a complete rebuild replacing all valves, etc. I'm 90% certain something was overlooked. I don't believe a valve just burns up for nothing. It was done, then 1000 miles later, it happened again, then 10K until this failure. I treated this car like I was going to keep it forever as I do all of my things. I'm going to cut my losses and get out. Most likely will try to sell it as is. I'm sure there is an enthusiast who can take on fixing it and have a great car, I just can't spend the cash.
What did I do with my MINI today? I checked the oil and drained the Oil Catch Can. I didn't drive it though, it was raining.
While waiting for 3 weeks for a part to come in for the Countryman, the local MINI dealer gave us a 2019 Cooper to drive, then I guess they sold it so they called me and swapped it out for a new Cooper S. I'll do a comparison review on another thread but here are pictures. Everybody knows red is faster so they balanced it out by making it a Cooper instead of a Cooper S. BTW...yah...the engine mount part that the wife broke had to come from Germany and it took almost a month to get here.
Sounds like your dealer is taking good care of you. Guess they never heard of expedited shipping. I bet your wife is missing her baby.
Taking the wife to Atlantic City today to see some cirque du soleil show at a casino and have dinner. So the MINI gets to take a long run to the beach and back on the AC expressway with the V1 on avoiding all the NJ troopers.
The dealer is trying, but they are under new ownership and I see them buried in their own bureaucracy and new business processes. All of this could have been handled a lot quicker and require less of my own intervention under their previous ownership. The part could have been ordered a lot sooner and all of the parts they needed could have been procured ahead of time. Instead, I had to go the insurance company to pick up the PO and give it them. They ordered a part, installed it, then ordered more parts that they needed to fix the car when all of it should have been ordered at the beginning. Happy to have our car back now, but not happy that it took so long. I still have to go back sometime this week to complete the insurance papers. Whereas, under the previous ownership, they would have had all the paperwork done and I just had to sign off and be done.
Sorry you had to go through all that. Hopefully it is done as it should be & you can put this all behind you.
The mandatory car insurance company in the province of British Columbia is owned by the government. So this ordeal shouldn't surprise anybody. Somebody was supposed to call me yesterday to finalize the paperwork. They still haven't called.
My kid gave me a OBD2 Bluetooth plug in module. So today, I played around with Bimmercode. Kind of cool you can set the temperatures for the seat heaters and all the other things. Now I just have to buy the license to set codes.
Yesterday: Drove it for the first time in 2.5 weeks... then gave it the oil change it's been needing. Then took it for nice little run up to some @$$#0L3'$ place (because his wife is a Saint, and knows how to cook like no other) to meet up with some friends. Today: Run to the BJs wholesale club to stock up for the New Year's Day feast of Pork & Sauerkraut.
Um let me think..................I hear Dave’s wife is a good cook...........she puts up with Dave.........so she is a must be a saint............so I’m just thinking.........
My S is at the dealer, inside and all warm and snuggly til they find out what's wrong with it. My wife's S is now languishing in the garage where I normally park my S...and out of the cold, so I think she's happy. Speaking of being happy...HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Yes, Lee, everything you say is true. BUT, she got me addicted to crack. She even makes it. It's gooooood !!!!! (PS, it's an inside joke )
