I used to do that. A couple of decades ago. I would fill 5 gallon buckets with warm water from the bathtub and go wash my IROC.

I had attempted to wash my car on Thursday evening, but noticed my hoses were still frozen. On Saturday afternoon, I managed to get the Countryman and the R53 washed. Just as I was finishing up the R53, it suddenly got cold and snowed briefly, adding credence to the well known theorem that washing your car causes precipitation or bird poop. After the snow stopped, I rinsed the R53 off again and the skies have been clear since.

So Bitsy has been running strong with 0 issues for long enough! She decided to blow oil all over herself yesterday on the way in to work. I thought there was just some extra semi's on the road causing the smell. Got to town, at a red light and noticed smoke coming out the front. 0 dash lights. Drove to parking deck (kinda hoping she would catch fire, cuz you know, R56) and popped the hood to see what's pictured below. Sent her up to the boys at Bavarian and they replaced the oil filler cap and did an oil change only to have her blow out under boost again. They're gonna try and isolate the source a bit more tomorrow. They don't know really why/where this is happening/coming from yet. Fingers crossed it's nothing too crazy. She's running absolutely fine.

Great that it’s not a mega expensive fix. All good mechanics have to deal with sub par parts from time to time. :Sneaky:

Pretty fortunate that you didn't have a big hot turbo fire. Should be an easy fix for you.

Hope it's nothing too serious. Maybe a cracked valve cover gasket.

    ... wait....you just said that.

I just had my valve cover gasket replaced a couple of years ago and every oil change since, somebody has told me it's leaking. There must be a trick to it or something.

He's keeping it another night. Called and said since I'm at 120k since he's in there for the gasket it would be a good idea to throw on a new cover, I agreed. Also had him throw in some new oil. This b***h should be good to go for a while

Getting a new one, just in case cuz BM'r plastic. And I followed the Bentley line by line, used the correct sealant in the necessary crevices. I remember that little bend being a bit thicker than the rest of the gasket... But yeah I recon a shop uses a little extra sealant there. I can't get over the fact that there's that much pressure and oil under that valve cover! I mean I knew there was pressure and oil but damn. Boost definitely tests engine seals.

There shouldn't be pressure under the valve cover, there should be a slight vacuum. It sounds like you have a defective PCV valve. A new valve cover will solve that problem.

That is my thought too. I'm wondering if your MINI is going through oil as in burning it. Excessive crankcase pressure can be a sign of worn rings & blow by.

The car isn't going thru any more oil than she has since I got her with 42k. She will use maybe a half qt. between oil changes. It shouldn't have any issues with premature wear on rings, BUT any issues with this car don't surprise me any more. I'm just like, OK. Followed by HOW MUCH?! *$&%&*$%

-Got her back yesterday and all is well. That damn valve cover was like $400! BM'r parts prices can be pretty damn insane.

Organizing this year's first MINI drive. Our annual fish n chip run. Any MINI driver in the Vancouver BC area are welcome to join me. This coming Saturday, we meet at Oakridge Shopping Mall where I will take over the South East corner parking lot.

I also ordered a rear license plate light lens because mine has cracked. So our run will take us past a MINI Dealer where I will pick up the part and we will continue on to Pajo's Fish n Chips on the Steveston Wharf.

While ordering this lens, I also impulse bought a baby gift set for a friend who just had a baby. I'm going to turn him into a MINI Motorer. Those socks are adorable.
