We have apparently become the hemp capital of OR around here........everyone is trying to cash in on this new craze.
Found a tire gauge at a garage sale last weekend. I took it to a place to get it calibrated and found it to be extremely accurate already. I don't think it was used much, if at all, The battery inside was still new and the sticker over the display window was still on it when I got it. I bought it for $2.
Finally I washed the Helmet! Now its tucked away in the garage safe from our cats. After all that DSC talk I had to look up how the R58 worked. One push turns off DSC and then it will say Traction. The book says this in for unplowed roads, when trying to get the car out of snow drifts, or if you have snow changes. if you push and hold it it cuts this off too. I guess it has something to do with the e-dif.
She's running as good as ever ((knocks on wood)). Brake pads, rotors, and wear sensors showed up today! Might stick the brakes on tonight or tomorrow night. Or Saturday sometime
It probably can be 3D printed or fixed. But I was unable to get my fingers in to see how it fits. So without ripping the glovebox door apart, I was unable to see how it fits in the latch. It has to go in, in a way that the lock on the glovebox door will lock or unlock. There has to be a slot in there somewhere. I just couldn't see or feel it without having to break something.
I took Rufus in for his third state inspection. For the first time he made it through without the need to do a repair first!
They're in! Hadda suck out quite a bit of fluid, the fluid was changed and at that time my front pads were worn down to the sensor (there was no notifications?). Also added another coat of black to the callipers and carriers. Did the initial bedding this morning, they got good n' smokey She'll get a bath tonight.
I cut the wires on the silly break pad sensors and soldered them together and tied them out of the way. I check my pads twice a year when I swap summer tires to winter tires (because it snows in PA) just like my father and his father did. I don’t need a silly sensor.
I haven't found any reason to turn the DSC off in my back-country romps in the MINI. Now, I had a press Mercedes SLC55 AMG once, and turned off the traction control. I spun it within the first thirty seconds. I learned a valuable lesson that day. A supercharged V8 in a car the size of a Miata is not something to take lightly. CD
I have that exact same tire gauge, without the MINI logo. I've had it a good 20 years. It has been pretty reliable. Good find at two bucks. CD
My MINI, even freshly washed, was no match (once again) for the cars I photographed yesterday. The cheap one was worth five million. But the one below was the prize. 1932 Alfa 8C 2600 (not 2300), owned by a guy I've known for at least fifteen years. For those of you who run classic Minis in rallies and tours, John ran this car in MANY rallies an tours (look at the stickers on the windshields), and it is one of two ever made. The other one sold for fifteen-million at auction a few years ago. Imagine doing the Dragon in a fifteen-million-dollar car. CD
I'm pretty sure I saw either this one or the sister car run at a classic race at VIR several years ago. I believe they said it was valued at 13 million at that time. The engine bay was a work of art with all the engine turning and polished parts. I do remember it had a unique sound. Beautiful car.
Installed a Sprint Booster. Apart from getting a custom tune this is the next best thing. Now I can heal & toe much easier =) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Did my front brake pads (G-Loc GS-1 street pads) and rotors (coated plain Zimmerman’s) yesterday. Bedded them in (their street pads have quick and easy bedding instructions compared to their track pads) but didn’t get a chance to check them out yet. Already have the rear pads and rotors in my basement but since the rears have more pad left on them will wait and get around to them a little later this summer at my convenience.
Quick first impression: Less grabby with light pedal pressure than the stock JCW pads, but ramps up very nicely and evenly with a little more pressure. Very good modulation of braking power all the way up to the limit. Looking forward to the claims of less brake dust and low rotor wear and noise compared with OEM
You will like the G-Loc GS 1’s . I run them in my front JCW big Brembo’s and love them for a daily pad. For the Dragon I swap out the fronts for G-Loc R8’s and I run R-8’s in the rear all year long.
