Today while on vacation I saw MANIC Motorsport has went out of business. Yay it’s about time. Next will be RPM with the BS canned tunes they sell. That will leave just Dinan canned tunes (under warranty) and RMW custom tunes for people who want large power increases over OEM.
Seems like the market is shrinking for both canned tuna & custom tuna. Takes a while, but the good stuff stays at the top while the poseurs fall by the wayside. I'd guess the new F MINI's have a low take rate on tunes & such. I'll never buy a new sweeper for my sweetie. She'd expect me to use it.
New F car owners are only into MINI performance with silly tech stuff not aftermarket performance because they care about MINI warranties. Gone are the years of really modifying a car that has a real drivers soul and making it your own unique car. All the new cars are just cookie cutter cars with “stick on” upgrades with stickers.
So....damn PCV Valve. Didn't realize how much havoc that causes on an engine, when its dirty. Was stalling and stuff. Cleaned it, and check engine light goes out. No cold starts, no rough idle, and runs like a crack addict. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I may go ahead and do it. Even though it running good now. As far as my wife knows, I need a new head! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Sorry Vetsvette, I totally forgot about your modded car. Although I think you are in the minority. Used to be if one drove a MINI they modded it. As many people leave the MINI realm it seems only the hard core modder's are left. The newcomers with F's don't seem to have the modding bug like folks used to. Back on topic, I did an underhood preflight check on Babs non-modded MINI.
I flew home from Florida today an saw my MINI in the garage. Nice and clean like I left it 2 weeks ago. Maybe I will go out for a ride tomorrow.
Replaced drive belt and crank pulley (still working fine but 10 years old and belt was getting pretty cracked).
I replace my belt and tensioner every 2 years. I replaced the crank damper after the first 4 years with an ATI damper.
I just used a Coteco brand OEM style part, which looks to be of reasonable quality. Actually, the original stock one looked perfectly fine, but I figure it was living on borrowed time and the rubber must be pretty hard by now. Also, no one seems to make a performance dampening crank for the R55-R60 range, just a couple lightened solid ones.
Busy day, painted the fading scoop with a peelable spray vinyl. It's basically like plastidip but finishes smooth and glossy. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Mine had gone out a while back. Went the cheaper route and put the lightened crank pulley on there. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
