Nothing Mini, can't even get the Helmet out of the garage. Yesterday changed the A/C compressor on my daughters Honda. As I was fighting that, one of my sons called to tell me he needed his oil changed and his brakes are squeaking. Said he could bring it over after church today. Guess what I am doing today?
MINI stuff, well I pulled the MINI out of the garage so I could spend the day cleaning the bread van, aka GTI. Man was it ever coated in road grime & bug guts. Later this week I'll clean out the inside & vacuum up the donut crumbs. Today I pulled the MINI out of the garage again & put new plugs & coils in the bread van. Later this week I'll drain the sump & add some new Mobil 1 0w40. 5,000 miles on the old stuff so it's time.
Hey Lee you are in luck. A MK1 GTI is on offer on Bring a Trailer. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-volkswagen-rabbit-16/
I just noticed that after 15+ yrs I have finally had a bulb quit on the MINI. The passenger side front parking light is out...... I remember reading sometime ago a post that someone had made about a mod the eliminated the funky reflector that split the housing. They went with a different bulb I think, anyone remember that?
There's this hobo version... https://www.amazon.com/iCarsoft-Vehicle-Diagnostic-Multi-System-Scanner/dp/B00S4B1E2U Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
Almost bought a new one when they first went on sale in CA. Neat little cars. Ended up buying a Supra instead.
I drove my car last Saturday for an hour. I had to go out and collect more OEM parts for my motor swap this winter. If you know me you know I am OCD about maintenance so anything that attaches to my new motor will be brand new like the motor. All sensors and etc.
The notorious stuck window. Passenger side this time. Thought the motor was toast. Twas just the regulator. Corrosion-seized. A new 1 was waiting in my parts bin. OldNew Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
Put the front Koni Sport (yellow) struts on this am (rear ones went on last weekend). Took a little while but no setbacks or problems except for a half hour of unexpected rain about 2/3 of the way through the job.
Alignment check after replacing all the struts and shocks (see post above) and the rear is just where I set it last year at -1.5 camber and 0 tie on each side, and front has a smidge more negative camber (now about -0.75 on both sides), but now measures 1/8” toe out. After a lot of effort, got the driver side tie rod adjusting threads unstuck, but couldn’t budge the passenger side even with Kroil and Penetro90 overnight and multiple other tricks. Fortunately, I was able to get to 0 toe with 240 degrees (2/3 full turn) on the driver side tie rod with very minimal tilt of the steering wheel when aimed straight ahead. Only bummer is that my staycation ends tomorrow am.
