Hello strangers. It has been cold and wet and business is really slow right now, so The MINI has been parked in the garage, dirty, for a while. I got it washed today, and cleaned the interior myself. It passed State inspection, and I got my new registration sticker. That's done for another year. The only good thing I have to say about the cold weather is that my inter-cooled turbo loves it. I want to find out how much more power I actually have when it is 25-degrees outside, vs 100 degrees. Anyone else done that research? CD
A cozy cabin, great handling and ride even with the square setup all season run flats,, great clutch, and a ton of hp and low end torque. My wife is really liking it.
I love the way BM'rs look! My MINI has ruined ever owning another BMW product for me. And that sucks because I'd love a new-ish 5 ('17) series. Thinking of going down the gauntlet of German cars over the next 10 years. Not set in stone but that's where my head's at currently and I've been looking almost daily. Still not sure if I'll keep Bitsy or sell/trade, can't really get anything for her so may just keep her. She'll be used only for MOTD and not much else going forward once I get a new DD. In MINI news, she's been great since her hose replacement. She got a bath and Rain-X treatment last night as well as some WD in all her hinges.
Though I may agree with you on this, there are other car brands which I have owned where the manufacturer has done a lot more stalling tactics to avoid actually performing the recalls than MINI. When I heard about the recall for MINI, and asked about it, they would schedule it and have it resolved right away (or at least ASAP). By experience, I have at least one US based manufacturer totally deny hearing about recalls or say they haven't received parts from the manufacturer or whatever to not bother with performing the recall. So, it may be that MINI was forced to do a recall, but at least they've followed through on them.
technically I did this to my MINI yesterday, not today. It was time to swap out the fun robbing Milltek resonator pipe. When the super charger intake noise drowns out your pops and burbles, you have to take action. Apart from that, I finished the R56 trailing arm conversion. More on that should I ever find time to edit the video footage I took of the entire job.
A whole lot of ones experience is up to the dealer. Be that for service recalls or TSBs. Not long after I bought my MINI R53 there was a TSB about the wrong transmission fluid being used in MINIs with LSDs. Man talk about pulling teeth. Service manager called me a liar & said there was no such thing. I let him argue in front of his other customers. Then I puled the printed copy of the TSB out of my back pocket & handed it to him. He turned all red, but they did drain the trans & refill with the proper fluid. I'm sure MINI had no problem fixing this, but the service manger acted like he'd was going to have to pay for this out of his own pocket. Next time I was in their shop they had a new service manger. My guess is he treated everyone poorly & it caught up with him.
Winter shoes are on the Countryman and the kids Cooper. They were on my R53 2 weeks ago (and still on). Oil change on the Countryman today. Coolant had been checked on all three cars. Winter floor mats installed. Now we wait and see if the winter is going to be cold or not in the Pacific Northwest.
Aired up the tires on the R50 today for the trip to MAG this Thursday at 11 AM for an oil change and general fluid check. It's supposed to rain...oh goody...but the Cooper is running well for a 9/02 build.
It rained on the R58 last night, it wasn’t parked in the garage, so I gave it a quick bath and drove it to work.
After an hour's downpour, found water in the batt box. Removed the hatch panel, hosed, inspected & found the leak source....the boot handle. Folded 2 strips of 3M tape to make 4 layers. Tested....passed the simulated storm test. Whew! Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
Good that you found you had a water cooled battery. Given enough time it would have become a real mess.
Haha...true. There's 1 common thing I'm sure that's acquired after years of MINI ownership....paranoia. Sent from my SM-G970F using Tapatalk
