The city I live in Bartlett witch is its own city even though most people call it a suburb of Memphis. A few years back went around and inspected all the sidewalks and the part of the drive way that goes between the sidewalk and street. If there were cracks in any of it they sent a letter to the home owner and told them they had to fix it, at the owners expense. But guess what they had a company that would come do it and add it to your utility bill. So nice of them. I am sure it was all legit!
Well one hard core Marine took them to court because that part of the land belongs to the city. Of course he lost, go figure. But he was not beaten. He told the city FU I will do it myself. So for about a month he had one lane of a busy street blocked off as he took his time and did the repairs. From that busy 6 lane street you can see his back yard, his house is on a small hill. He cuts the letters USMC into his yard every year.

    He is my hero!

The heck you say ! As of last July, 2019, the California Gas tax was set to 47.3 cents per gallon. But you are right about fixing the roads though, even at that tax rate they can’t get any real repairs or maintenance done. This does not include any Federal or Local Taxes and misc charges we have to pay on a gallon of gas.

I was just looking up gasoline taxes and Pennsylvania has the highest in the country. Whoops, one article says Pennsylvania is the most and another says California.

If the Trumper really wanted to make this country great again, fixing the roads and other infrastructure should be right at the top of the list, not building a fucking wall.

We 100% need the wall. Democrats will not pass any bills that support infrastructure and even if they did they would spend the money on Abortions and providing free healthcare to illegals.

The hate and disrespect for the President of the United States is the worst of any President in history. Look at your 401K now that Obama is not in office. Look great, I know. Look at unemployment. Record low. Things are better then they were but even if Trump cured Cancer you would still hate him and try and give Obama credit.

After the impeachment hoax is over and it will fails, Trump will be re-elected and the house will be flipped back and things will start getting done again. Two years of Dems waisting time and OUR tax money will end.

Bernie, Warren, Biden all have no chance as the United States will NEVER become a socialist country.

We're expecting the first significant snow of this year over the weekend, my poor MINI lives outside, along with the wife's Allroad. I keep telling her we need to build a 20X25 annex on the back of the garage so I can move all my car stuff in there and she can put her car back in the garage, but so far she's not having it. :)

I actually yesterday stopped by Mini/BMW of El Paso and test drove a 2018 BMW M2 with 15K on it and of course immaculate, even clear wrapped. Great car but just could not bring myself to do it! Great power with double clutch, 2 doors, itchy brakes, horrible run flats [would have been an extra expense... before the Taxes even though only 3% here], a lag on the throttle for sure and it felt BIG... I have been driving a Mini since 1966... Yes, please don't mention it, I am getting old and older... It was a good experience though and while my GOKART was parked 3 customers wanted to buy it as also a shop mechanic! No Go... This will probably be my last Mini!... No sense spending again for all the performance and handling add ons. The combination of owning a JCW and a Jeep considering hundreds of miles of mountain paved and unpaved roads start a mile from here, especially when both vehicles are paid for, is just perfect...

So today, I was smiling again on one of my roads... It is an addiction, a daily fix...

Today's short video. Rudimentary editing and better watched on 1080p HD.

Now I am just waiting on a box from Jan at RMW that should be here Thursday. (More goodies)

The fun is about to begin.

I can't do much with this one, we're supposed to get three more inches this afternoon.......
    IMG_20191216_100425R.jpg
so I guess I'll just play with these instead....
    IMG_20191216_100501R.jpg

Actually, the one closest to me in the pic is just about done, I'm only waiting on one part that will be here later in the week to finish, and then it's ready to go back to Tulsa and the Innocenti will come back.
The Inno is also really close to done but I won't be driving it till the streets clear, they salt around here and I'm not going to muck up all the hard work we've done......

I drove on my nearly 9 year old Blizzaks to just outside of Dayton, OH, yesterday, to get my new snow tires installed before the forecasted snow and ice storms. The ride down was an experience in itself. Don't let ANYONE tell you that tires [even snow tires] last forever. I dreaded every mile during the 25 mile trip down and prayed those old and very hard tires would make it on the wet and slick roads, which, thank God, they did. Looking at the tires before I went in to the installer for my new snows, I marveled at how great those Blizzaks still looked and it gave me a slight pause before I sent them to "snow tire heaven".

My new snows are on now and the drive home was much more pleasant...less jarring over the bumps, greater steering response and the knowledge that I had made the right decision in letting my old tires go.

In Maryland if a tire (snow or otherwise) is seven years old no one will install it. Doesn't matter how good of shape its in.

Actually, the tires were 8.4 years old but had nearly new tread since, with 3 MINIs, I don't drive the S in winter much anymore. Even so, that said, the guy who installs my tires was pretty leery about installing them and told me they might last thru a snowless Winter. Fat chance, with our on and off OH winters, so I was on the lookout for decent snows, bought them and had them installed yesterday.

A friend of mine bought a Suburban to use as a tow vehicle for his rally car. As I recall the Sub was something like 11 years old with under 3,000 miles on it. I mentioned that he might want to buy new tires. He said "heck they look like new". His first trip towing on the way to a rally in Michigan he had a tire explode. He told me he darned near lost the whole rig. He bought 5 new tires before he drove further.

After he past on & I was helping his wife clean out his shop, there were rally tires that had to be twenty years old. Those things felt like they had changed into some sort of hard plastic.

No way I'll drive on a tire that is more than 6 years old. I usually wear them out before that. Old tires can look good, but there is no way of knowing they are safe. More than likely they aren't. :Dead:

I'm so glad I got these new snow tires. They ride so smoothly and cut through this day's snow and ice like those Blizzaks I had when they were newer. I'm happy I made the choice to switch. These will give me five years of confident use.

When I was rebuilding my Indian my stepdad brought me some brand new tires from the stock he still had. Of course this was stock from the 50's but hay they are new! Needless to say they are sitting in the garage. Not only are they hard as a rock but they are old bias ply!
