Would depend on your electric rate price, so knowing the amount of energy anyone then could figure out their costs.
I just went and asked! We work in the same building and I've been grilling him with ev cost of ownership and reliability questions about his Leaf's off and on for the past few months. He said it's negligible, his bill went up maybe $25 a month. He just uses the cable that came with the car, so no 240v action. And a new rego sticker for his tags cost $200 compared to $20 for a regular gas car but he also get's to use the HOV lane any time whether he's alone or not. In GA we're taxed just over 57 cents (fed and state combined) per gallon of gas, so you're still ahead with an ev in that regard. I spend anywhere between 35-40(+) bucks every week for gas in my MINI. After some figuring, didn't include extra trips so just commuting and at the very LEAST I spend $307 a year just in gas tax not even counting the rest of each dollar per gallon spent.
In MINI news, she got a bath this weekend. I also had to install a new belly pan anchor/nut/thingy for one of the front mounting spots. Whilst under the car I noticed an oil leak (yay another one!) coming out that little opening under the flywheel. I take it I have the infamous rear main seal leak. Can't wait to fork over another what, $1k in repair costs? Not sure what's all involved but I know it's not easy to get in there.
I've been looking at electrics for my wife, as she only drives a few miles on her rounds, and that's only a few times a week now too. But................she's not interested in getting something that's not as nice as her current Audi and none of the "affordable" electrics come close in luxury or amenities, they all look like stripped down commuter cars unless you go WAY up in price. No leather for example - which she insists on. It would make so much sense for her and her driving to have something like a Leaf.....
It'd be nice to land a Model 3 in a year or so but I don't see them dropping into my price range any time soon. I have found some S's but they're like 13's with 65k. Don't know how I feel about an old out of warranty Tesla... I know MINI ownership is rough but I don't even want to imagine what that could cost...... The Leaf is definately an affordable decent option, I just can't stand how they look. That said, I wouldn't be opposed if I found a new/newish one for under/up to like 25-30. I'm going into it thinking only about easy commuting. The Leaf fan at work, Tom, said with the adaptive cruise and lane keep assist he barely has to touch anything on the way home. That sounded amazing to me, that an the HOV priviledges. His isn't a crazy optioned out one either, it's just an SV I think. He regularly get's 150+ range from a charge. Really has me thinking. But they're ugly.
The leaf is not really ugly, just a bit edgy and utilitarian . You might like it get the right color and some fun optons, but don't bump it to high $$$ due to the options. Does your state have a tax subsidy or is the model you are looking at eligible for the Fed subsidy. Lowers the cost to a reasonable amount. . Don
Anyhow, for my MINI this past weekend I painted the garage added more lights. All T5 6500 Kelvin electronic ballasts. I had the garage door open on a 40 degree day and it was 65 in the garage. With the door closed 78 degrees was very easy to get to. I use these lights for detailing and curing coatings overnight. Next weekend I will be insulate the garage door and maybe hang two new black cabinets. I will also be picking up a roller tool chest / bench made by Milwaukee.
Pictures with both 4.5 foot mirrors on one side and Yes, that’s my new motor on the engine stand. The whole back wall shelving unit is going away soon.
Your garage looks great. Although it has to be tough working in such a small place. You do turn out some great work in there. Maybe it's time to move to a bigger garage with a small house attached. When I moved from a 3 car garage to a 2 car it was hard to get used to. My house got bigger, but the garage got smaller.
I agree that's not a whole lot of room on the sides - Dave O I really think you should consider buying a scissor lift, your life would be so much easier especially doing the lower parts on the sides. I've gotten tired of trying to work in my not too tiny 2 car garage so I'm getting ready to build an addition on the back of my garage so I can have a little more elbow room and height.
Minidave you can tell but the garage is carpeted with very nice padding under it. It’s perfect for sitting on the floor and working. Our next house will have a 3 car garage, because my wife demands it. She is tired 15 year old MINI getting the garage and the 2 year old Lexus RX 350 sitting outside. I tell her I keep it clean for her for free. Her reply is always you eat for free. Can’t argue with that.
You can haul a 24' and/or a 28' ladder, a new toilet and a ladder stabilizer in a MINI. Fyi. Went back and swapped for the 28'-er. 24' ended up being too small for what I needed it for.
It begs the question.....If you need a 28' ladder to install your new toilet how will you get up there to use it?
My uncle asked me the same thing The ladder was to clean out our shiny new gutters...... I've needed one for a while. The toilet was 1/3 I need to change. First time ever changing/installing a toilet. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be
not today, but on tuesday. it might be the end of fun toy.. airbags deployed adding to the damage, the towing guy didnt hook the car properly resulting to hit and drag the car on the sidewalk while coming out of the parking lot.. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
I am really sorry to hear that! That is a bad hit! Are you ok? Tow truck drivers can be butchers. I have seen more than one car messed up by them. What really gets me is they will say it’s not their problem.
