Yup, it will be done before the dragon. I have a very good guy and it should go in over one weekend after it warms up around here.
The MINI's been behaving and not throwing any fits! She's been hauling around my new wheels to random trails around ATL. Any mountain bikers on here? Moved to this from my old 04' Haro last weekend, this thing is on a whole nother level.
Wow, I guess I’m used to road bike gearing because those gears on the cassette look like chainrings. How many teeth are the large ones, and how many for the chainring up front?
Another bit of Nostalgia back when our racing was sponsored in 1979, I drove the SSB car but Steve my partner in crime manage to end the season at this Lake Afton race in 79. We pitted with the Peak sponsored yellow MG/Sprite, would have liked to take a few laps in it too. Bigger Sign, bigger sponsor. Yes, 3 years of SSB in various dealer Rabbits and Sciroccos, my daily driver back then was a scirocco with the the full body kit and a 3 inch open exhaust, guess I never have grown up. Don
30 on the crankset and 50 on that first gear, the gearing is 11-50. It's a 1X12 Sram driveline and the bike is a Roscoe 7.
Pictures from the way-back machine. Love them Don! You have stirred some old memories for me. Loved rallying, but transitioned to racing on the track. Heck I also raced in ITA & ITB, but on tracks in the Midwest. Did a few races in showroom stock too. I bought an old Spridget race car to rebuild & go vintage racing, but life intervened.
I had a '78 Scirocco I bought new, cobalt blue. Spent a lot of money on that one too. Lots of Nuespeed stuff, KYB, etc...... Sold it 25 yrs later for my MINI....
I had a whole load of air cooled beetles over the years. My 2013 GTI MINI replacement is my first water cooled one. Although I had the opportunity to race a couple of MK2 GTIs & a 16V Scirocco. Back on topic, MINI stuff. This morning we had some snow so I took Babs clubster out to the ortho doc. Heck her car has snow shoes & mine is too clean to get it out in the slop. Another injection of grease into my left knee. Oh boy.....
@old81 and @Crashton These are great post. You two are going to get me in trouble. I've been think of getting a car to restore. If the wife tries to kill me I will be crashing at one of your places
Always have a room in Colorado, just don't ask for me to help with the alimony payments, might help with tire money for the race car. . We have 4 good road tracks left in Colorado, HPR, PPIR, Pueblo and La Junta, I like La Junta, it is been renewed a bit, simple short and fast. HPR is closest, newest and in my experience the fastest and most technical. Not really a low HP track but has some nice bits for the IT and smaller engine cars. If you have big HP and lots of traction look at wide slicks say on the Porsche GT4 Cayman, that would be my HPR car of choice. Not happening but nice thoughts. Don
Is that you in the Red/Orange Toyota, good attitude, I started out in autocross in a Toyota then went to a Midget which was wildy modified to autocross in the early 70s. Then to track racing, been at it a few years, then back at it in the early 90s til now, A nice long love of pavement and turns. Enjoyed working as a corner worker over those years too. Don
Yes that is my Toyota FX16 GTS. Same drive line as an early MR2 with the exception being front engine fwd. Sort of a Japanese GTI. I started out doing autocross & then switched to fast TSD rally then into ProRally. When SCCA came out with the IT class we jumped on it. My wife got her competition licence & we mostly raced double regional's. I'd race Saturday & she'd race Sunday. It was a pretty good setup, she never complained about spares or tire costs.
