Has koni stopped doing the free rebuilds on the yellows and reds? Or is that showing my old car guy age? Curious, a new set is always nice. Don
Warranty replacements. (Actually paid 50% for advance replacements and will send old ones in for evaluation after to get full refund. A few hoops to jump thru, but have my original receipt and still have the MINI.....etc., Thank you wife for being so organized!) https://www.koni-na.com/CorporateSite/media/itt/NA/pdf/35331_KONI_Warranty_HowToObtainWarranty.pdf
I would be one of many who would appreciate your impressions of the new G2, I do not have a Valentine, but have always liked the features. Does this one offer enhanced software? Are you doing a remote sensor setup or dash mount. Handy little items to keep you honest on speed. Thanks, Don
Don, this is my 3rd upgrade. I have the unit hard wired in my car with the remote head in front of my tach. People that have never owned a V1 always trash it without ever using one. GPS is a radar detector makes in weaker ,but people read reviews and think they know everything. I have run one of these for over 10 years and always get free software upgrades and when the hardware was the limitation Valentine always has 50% off discount to upgrade to the latest hardware.
I used to have a radar detector (not in my MINI). Until somebody smashed my side window and under my bumper and ripped it off. There were witnesses that saw who did it, but the police did nothing (of course). Since then, I have not had a radar detector. I just drive reasonably safely for conditions. I have only had one velocity certificate the last 10 years, and it wasn't me driving.
Had my MINI in for an oil change and new front brakes. I told them I didn't want a Countryman for a courtesy car, so they gave me this:
The 3 series slots in as a compromise. On the one hand, I have a R53 MINI Cooper S which is a hoot to drive, goes and changes direction where it's pointed and is simply telepathic in nature. On the other hand, I had an e60 5-series that was over the top luxury with super smooth, effortless power build acceleration and great handling for such a big car. Then there is this 3 series that is not overly luxurious, and not super playful. A compromise of all things, and not great at either. It's still a pretty nice car. I like it better than, say a loaded up Honda Accord or Toyota Camry but the 3-series also compromises on the reliability that the two Japanese have as their reputation. I'm not sure I would buy one for myself.
My wife and I are loving the M240i ‘vert she got 6 months ago. It’s going to get a real workout this coming week after sitting at the curb most of the last month or so. Put the chassis on the sport setting and push down with your right foot and the 6 cyl twin turbo really makes that little car go. Manual transmission, too, of course.
All 3 of my MINIs need work, so driving any is rather sketchy for now. For sure, my R53 isn't going anywhere until I have it transported to Best, in Columbus, for some major work. Wife's R53 has cockeyed rear wheels so I'm guessing it may need control arms and an alignment. The R50 is stuttering on acceleration and I have no idea why, as I'm not like you MINI guru guys. New plugs and wires or a throttle body cleaning? WTF do I know? Nada damned thing. Like Crashton said earlier this week, wallets will take a hit, and sadly, it looks like my wife's and my stimulus check isn't going to cover the expenses.
Justa guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if your R50 is on the original plugs & wires. I'd put those in & skip the throttle body cleaning. Add a bottle of Chevron Techron to the gas tank. Actully add that to all your cars. As you may be finding out you have to stay on top of the maintenance. Good luck I hope it goes well for you.
Thanks Chuck...I'll get 3 bottles when the parts store opens on Tuesday, but, should I get The fuel injector cleaner, or, the high mileage fuel system cleaner for cars over 75k?
Little progress today. The drivers door had a nice size paint chip in it. The owner touched it up for 2 weeks so I could wet sand and polish it out.
Waiting for the DriveShaft Shop to finish my custom axles for the R50, just picked up new polyurethane sway bar bushings and low speed fan resistor from Summit Racing Equipment. Figured while I was installing the new warrantied Koni Yellows and axles, let refresh bushings too! Hoping axles will be here soon, the passenger cv joint is really squalking now! Lol
