Not today, but yesterday. Went on a run to blow things out, see if that code would throw....it DID NOT. All settled!

While I was out, figured I'd fire up the drone, and made this today.

Well I don't remember last time I had to admit defeat and take a car to a dealer but it happened Friday. The S2000 beat me. It wont turn over. I checked the start button, clutch cutout switch, the starter cutout relay, pulled the starter but it tested good. So I put my volt meter on the starter signal wire. It gets 3v any time the key is on when I push the start button the same I don't get 12v. So thinking I did not test the start button correctly I pulled the dash and installed a new one, no luck. I replaced the starter cutout rely, nope. So I jumped the clutch switch, still nothing. This is humiliating I cant believe I could not fix it. So I gave up and in the rain I pushed it off and took it to the dealer.
So my son has had my truck all week and now all weekend. So I am using the Helmet as my daly driver. It has made going to work fun.

Another take on this would be that you were wise enough to know your limitations

Best to stop poking it before it dies forever. The more modern cars have some interesting picadilios. :)

Lee I know the feeling & it's not a good one. It won't be long until the hoods of cars are sealed. There will be a label that says NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE. There will be a phone number to call for support 1-800-$$$-$$$$.:(

New cars are great, but they don't make it easy for an old fart.

There are lawsuits going on right now, particularly around tractors, about the farmers being able to self-maintain and repair their equipment. They aren't being given enough information to repair the electronics and companies like John Deere are claiming the tractors are out of warranty if certain areas are opened up by the OWNERS.

It's not hard to imagine that, depending on how the lawsuits shake out, auto manufacturers will be doing the same soon.

Yes I have read about this. Man does it suck & if the farmer's lose there will be bad ramifications for all people who work on their cars.

I don't know if you've noticed this, but info on car repairs is getting hard to find. The days of buying a Bentley manual may be behind us. I've always bought a repair manual for each car I've owned. The MINI was the last car I was able to do that for. :Dead:

Wasn't 76 the last year for Carbs on the 308's?

The reason you're only seeing 3V coming out of the starter button is that it's not connected to the starter, rather it talks to the computer, which energizes the starter relay. I would bet on either a bad battery or battery connection, or bad starter relay.

Yep. 79 was the last year on the carb 308’s. In 80 they went to fuel infection to comply with EPA standards. This caused a loss in HP. In 82 they introduced the Quatrovalvole. It gained back the HP lost due to fuel infection. ]@Minidave I’m not sure but 76 may have been the last year of the fiberglass cars. Those are very sought after and carry a big price tag. Thanks for the answer on the 3v that makes sense

I got the S2000 back. They said it was the rubber pad on the clutch peddle. I don’t see how. The clutch switch is at the top of the clutch travel. With the clutch pedal up it pushes the switch in. When you push the clutch down it releases the button and you can crank the car. With the pad gone it never engage the clutch button. So you should be able to start the car with the clutch up. It does not make sense.

You knew it was going to be some stupid little thing that you'd never envision being a problem.

In my experience it's usually a little stupid thing that bits you on the arse.

Lee, one thing about throwing in the towel, the dealer most likely has experienced the stupid little thing before. So it's any easy fix for them. Glad you got the S2K back. I mean your Tundra back. ;)

If’n it starts keeping you up at nights you could always spin by the dealership and ask the service desk person for a more detailed explanation. :)

Ok the really bad part of all this is my wife tried to help. She did a search on the internet before I started. She came out and told me that she read that could be it..........No I did not listen. I explained how it worked and said that cant be it. So I worked on it all week when I was not at work.
Yesterday day when we got it back and found out the fix, I got a little "I told you so" smile. The rest of the day she was nice. She just walked around with a smile and if the subject came up she would just giggle. After 33 years of marriage you would think I would know better.
