My mom's dementia has recently progressed to Alzheimers. So part of my time that I gained back from retirement will be spent looking after my parents. Gives me an excuse to drive my MINI every day from the burbs back into Vancouver (BC).
Everything arrived for the regular service... oil flush, oil (both from LiquiMoly), some oil filters (OEM), plugs (NGK 4-prong - 1 degree colder) and a new supercharger belt (JCW-sized). Now I just need to find time to get out to do the work.
beken I'm sorry your Mom has taken the turn to Alzheimers. Being with your parents is the best. I'm hoping you can have some good time with each other. You'll be in my thoughts.
Good question. I got curious and looked it up and ……. there is a difference. Flush uses some kind of chemicals to break up sludge etc. and after that is drained one does an oil change.
Correct! LiquiMoly makes an additive that you put into the old oil and run the engine for 10-15 min before draining the oil, replacing the filter and adding in new oil. Since I didn't own the car for the first 12+ years of its' life and don't know how often the oil was changed and with what products, I figure it's a good way to clear out any old sludge that might be hiding in there. Once I do this 2-3 times (this will be my second), I might discontinue as I use good oil/filters and change regularly. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CR3RXTO?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
Very well. It has been two years sense I did it. I believe I did it in May of 19. I believe it is almost time to do it agin. It still beads water but I have noticed dirt sticks to it more now. When I first did it, if it was dirty I could hose it off and it would look clean. About half that time the car was in the garage and the other half out side. Will I do it agin, maybe. I think it works really well. I think if I redo it I will take more time getting the paint perfect. The only down side to it is you have to be carful what products you use on it. This is no big deal but you cant just run to auto shack and use cheep soap. The soap I bought from esoteric has lasted me two years. Also they have products that will prolong the life of the coating. You just spray it on when drying the car. It has been very nice not waxing for two years and it is easy to keep the car looking good. The Lotus I buffed and put a paint sealer on it. I am not as OCD about the Lotus as I am about the Helmet(thanks Mark! he started it). My wife thinks I am crazy. But race car. I am sure I will do my wife's car, I should have done it by now. I think doing the wheels and plastic is a good idea because it makes it much easer to keep clean. The down side is it takes a lot of prep work, don't skip that part or you will be sorry. It took me 3 days to do it, then the car cant get wet for a week. But after that you are on easy street. The coating itself is easer than wax to apply.
Full washy washy for Cars & Coffee on Sunday, got the new side marker in, new hood scoop (a clip had broken), new green John Cooper signature puddle lights in, and redid the headlights with their chameleon film. All freshened up and ready to go. Will get some pics of the new lights once it gets dark.
