So today I had the snow boots put on Skooby. All ready for winter. Discount Tire once again did a fine job. Once again they over tightened the lug bolts. When I got home I buzzed each one loose with my impact & torqued them to the proper spec.
Overnight temperatures dropped to zero degrees celsius and there has been severe rain the last week so I finally got snow boots on all three MINIs in my household. Surprised the tireshop was not busy. 20 minutes for each car. I was all done by lunch time. So pleased with the guys at the tireshop, I bought them a box of Krispy Kreme donuts. So...what's happening here.... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/wyntk-bc-floods-nov-17-1.6251839
Anytime you see boats with outboard motors traveling through an intersection you know there is a serious problem. Nice touch with the donuts.
I do live on slightly higher ground, but my house drainage could not keep up with the rain coming down. Some of my gutters overflowed and water got into my basement through the basement door. I got out in the dark and spend about 1/2 digging a makeshift trench for the water to flow into the back yard and then mopped up my basement mud/laundry room. We also lost electrical power for about 6 hours. The cars are on higher ground so they were safe
Yes, nice family boating in the low parts. We had a nice surprise Colorado snowstorm this evening, of course I have to take my sweet wife to airport in the morning, I will be driving my MINI daily while she is gone, must find good good food at lunch. Everyone have a safe and great Thanksgiving Day. Don
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It’s been awhile since I have been on, but it’s been awhile since I have done anything with GIR too. A recent visit to the dealer informed me of some needed work. So far I have installed a MAP, belt tensioner and belt. I also dropped the sub assembly to replace the lower control arm bushings and hoses for the power steering. Of course once I dropped it almost every bushing needs to be replaced, working that one. While I was under the car I noticed the oil pan was looking pretty beat up, quite a few stress fractures, almost looks like liquid, oil is seeping through the metal. With the sub assembly off I figured I will just replace that also, on order. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I remember when I dropped my subframe to do the clutch. It was the same thing but it was nice to get it all done.
Hello strangers. I haven't been here in a long time, but I'm still alive. Lots of elderly parents issues have been occupying my time. With Christmas coming, I thought I'd drop in and say hello. I still have my MINI. It still looks good and runs good. 14 years old now, with 135,000 miles. However, it shares the garage now with an Audi Q5. The MINI is becoming a fair weather fun car. CD
Well it's been a month now so a went and started up my car and let it run a while. It started just fine and no unusual sounds so all is good. So I can put it back to sleep.
Got back under the mini replaced oil pan, oil filter, lower engine mount and crank sensor o ring. Fitted new outer tie rods and torqued down the inner ball joints to the subassembly, still waiting on sway bar bushings, you think they were being made to order from from Germany as long as it is taking. Yesterday I drove the Helmet to work. The interstate here has become a free for all. The speed limit is 55. If your not doing 70 you may get hurt. You can’t believe the things I am seeing. The police, I believe have given up, not that I blame them. A few days ago I was passed by a car weaving in and out of traffic. His left front wheel was tilted out about 30 degrees, looked like the wheel baring was going bad. Sparks were coming out and he was not slowing down. A few months ago I saw a MB SUV in mid air. It did a few cartwheel before coming to rest on its wheels. I stopped. The lady was ok. Every airbag had deployed. Germans know how to build a car. No car hit her. I believe she was going fast distracted and yanked on the wheel. Causing it to dig in and flip. Crazy! The part of town where the airport and our training building is you have to be careful going through green lights. People run the red lights, yes on purpose! At night they shut off their lights when they are going to run the light, they don’t even slow. I see it all the time. A few weeks ago I almost got hit. I hit my brakes for the first one, his wing man I did not see. He almost got me! So yesterday I get passed by several people. One was a tall pickup. I matched his speed just to see……..95. I slowed back down and watched my mirrors. Most days I am in my pickup. I think I am going to get some huge bumpers for it and maybe some spikes on the front and back. the country has gone crazy. Be careful my friends
Yes the freeways have become a free for all. Like you said go the speed limit & get run over. As far as cops doing anything, our state patrol will pull an idiot driver over on the interstates out of town. In town no way. The local police don't bother, they are just phoning it in these days. Can't say that I blame them. What a terrible job to have. Cars running red lights & stop signs. I see it every time I'm out. So many people looking at their farking phones it's just nuts. Be careful out there.
I rarely drive on the freeways, they just don't go where I need to go. But lately, I have been taking the freeway to visit a friend in the hospital about an hour north of my home. The other day I was driving 70 mph in the HOV lane with my wife , that's ten over the speed limit, when a Dodge Challenger roars up behind me, gets right on my bumper and starts blowing his horn! There was no place for me to move over as the other lanes were packed, so I just maintained my speed, turned up the radio and continued in my lane until traffic in the next lane lightened up and I was able to move over (about five minutes). the Challenger zoomed past me and got on the tail of another car about a quarter mile ahead for a repeat performance. I see cops on that stretch of road a lot, mostly looking for HOV lane violators, but there were none that day.
THIS is why I don't go to C-Bus and I-270 anymore. Unfortunately, though, my MCS needs some tranny work done at Best Auto Werks on Hamilton Rd. I'm thinking of sending the car there and having best send it back here when the finish doing the work. I'll be happy to pay the transport prices each way, if for no other reason than to keep off I-270.
