I took my R53 to the local MINI dealership for an oil change. I have winter tires and set up my car for winter driving so had no problem getting through the snow. Got to run some donuts by the electric MINI charging stations
Well finally got the new starter in and had the same results. Did a little more research, had a few more ideas to try and it turned out to be the grounding strap on the top engine mount. I had removed it to replace the belt tensioner and it seems I didn’t tighten it down after I put it on by hand. Live and learn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sorry you had to go through all the extra work and expense but the car is repaired and you now have a spare starter.
It was more of a time issue than anything, it has to go through inspection and registration soon. My take away is I learned a lot about the process it takes for it to turn over. That and torque everything down after you hand tighten it. I still have a code, need to get at it today and see what it is. Might just let the shop mess with it when I bring it in for the alignment. Well... it wasn't with my MINI in particular, but in service to the MINI. I loaded up 4+ years of waste oil, brake fluid and coolant for the ride to one of Charlotte's recycling centers. All fluids were properly disposed of and I now have a remarkable amount of empty space on my workbench!
Ha! I was looking at my used fluids this weekend and was thinking how much room I could free up with a trip to the recycling center. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Back up a few months, I had GIR at the dealership for a check engine light that appeared after they did some recall work. I wish I could remember what the code was but they said it was either MAP sensor or the hose leading to it, or that is where they would start. They had neither in stock so I ordered them myself and replaced the MAP and all the other things they pointed out during their inspection, except for the hose. It looks like an extreme pain, more than I really wanted to go through at the time. Back to real time, I have GIR “running” again but he has thrown a few faults - DTCs. From my research I have found that most suggested resetting the adaptations. It took a few attempts and I am down to one code that will just not go away, P1239 “DME; pressure sensor, intake manifold before compressor, input to low when engine stopped. “ Before I start ripping things apart again, has anyone run across this before. I am having a hard time with how pressure can be to low with nothing running. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
WoooHooooooooo...I won a free alignment for my MCS at Best One Tire and got it done today! All is good again!
Could the sensor have a bace reading when the engine is off and if the reading is incorrect the ECU detects it as a faulty sensor? Another words let’s say it should read 0 but it is reading -1 so the ECU flags it as a fault.
Have had a code for the air recirculating sensor showing up intermittently over the last year, and now on constantly for the last week or so, so I ordered a new sensor, and was able to swap it in by reaching in through the battery flap without even having to remove the passenger side cowl. Cleared the code and it’s staying off. Yay!
That makes sense. Everything I have read mentions the ECU adjusting to sensors and basically storing that information. Resetting the adaptions of the ECU seems to be the number 1 “fix”. It fixed all but this one. Further reading points to a vacuum issue. Pretty nasty out today, not much going to happen besides some more research
I had GIR picked up and transported to the shop. I tried messing around getting it to run better and solve the code issue, eventually getting to the point that it is no longer is running. I was told they won’t be able to get to it until tomorrow, hopefully it is not that bad and won’t empty my bank account. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A question for all. I am looking to add the Rennline pedal boards to GIR. According to Rennline they won’t fit with Coco Mats. Its been a while but I seem to remember running across a members thread showing the pedal boards installed with the Coco Mats. Am I imagining things? Any help would be appreciated. I don’t know if this helps but my R58 has Coco Mats and Rennline installed. If they won’t fit your GP and you really have your heart set on them I will trade the Helmet for the GP.
Ha! I have the pedals! Looking for the board that sits behind the pedals. https://www.rennline.com/images/P71.60.96.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
