I thought I might be able to put a slight bend at the bottom, just enough to clear the mat. Modding the mat is an idea. I guess I could try getting a rug store to shorten them and rebind. I am definitely not getting rid of them, they are great, worth every penny.
You need to contact Metalman, who, as his name implies, makes things out of metal. HE should be able to find a solution for you.
Well got GIR back today. EWS and DME out of sync and they replaced the MAP sensor as well as a TMAP sensor. I guess the one I bought did not work. Nice to have it back on the road. I found an intermittent issue with the drivers window on the way home though . While you are driving it seems to want to reset it self. It won’t drop that half inch when you open the door either. Looking for a reset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s been to long sense I owned my R53 but I think there is a way to reset the windows. It was something like with the door open hold the window switch up for a couple seconds. It may be in the Bentley manual. Perhaps that will fix it.
I did some research and came up with the same suggestion. Tried the realignment and no go. While sitting in the car looking up other alternatives, the intermediate flinching of the window continued with no key in the ignition. Parked and disconnected the battery. Called the shop and made an appointment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think this is what I did to reset my windows. With the door closed, continue holding the switch for about 5-10 seconds after completely down, then continuing to hold the switch up for 5-10 seconds after completely up will reset the one touch down and drop when the door is open.
I didn’t try holding it down for any length of time. I’ll give it a try and see what happens, can’t hurt. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not sure what you mean by reset itself. If you mean, it just stops working, From time to time, my passenger window just doesn't work anymore. I use the Fonzie method and it seems to fix the issue for the next few years. In the 16 years I have had my R53, I've done it 3 times. My theory is the micro switches for the relays inside the door that operate the window motors might get wet and corrode. A good rap sometimes loosens the oxidation and allows the switches to reconnect. On the inside of your car, Draw an imaginary line between the door open handle and the center of the door speaker. About midway on that line, maybe just below the middle point of that line, with the palm of your hand, give it a good rap. Then try the window toggle switch again. It might take 2 or 3 tries, but it has worked for me.
Fonzie, wow haven’t heard that name in a long time. What is happening is I am not getting the auto drop when I open the door, it is staying in the fully closed position. To tell you the truth it almost looks like it is a fraction of a bit higher than it should be. With the key in or out of the ignition the window is having intermediate “convulsions”. It will drop a fraction of an inch and then try to reseat itself in the fully closed position. It might happen once or multiple times in succession, go without for a period of time and happen again. If I lower the window height at auto drop height or lower it is fine, no issues. Reading your issue, thinking back on that day we were having freezing rain on and off, not normal for NC but it didn’t dawn on me that it could be the cause. I will have to check when I get home today. Looking through the Bentley though it did mention the procedure brought up earlier, holding the switch in the up position. All other fixes that I saw were physical, take door panel off, adjust so and so ext…. I am not finding anything else stating it could be a programming issue with say a module. Well I owe you Beken. After work I hooked up the battery and went through the reset process, took three tries but it eventually came on line and is working as it should. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I might have spoken to soon. Fired GIR up this morning seemed ok, let it warm up and the window started having convulsions again. With it being dark out noticed the cabin lights stayed on the whole time the key was in the ignition. Heading to shop this afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
