That is clean looking Mini. I’d love to get my hands on something like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
About 5 years. We never did a full restore on it but we had just about everything replaced but the body.
Yesterday in the middle of nowhere (betwixt Peachtree City and Newnan GA) she started pissing coolant out the backside of the engine. Luckily the car in front of me had to make a left turn, otherwise I might not have noticed the big cloud of steam I left behind me after being stopped for a bit, or the very strong smell of steamy coolant.... Pulled off immediately and shut her down, assessed the situation and called AAA. Thinking water pump or thermostat connecting pipe, should hear from the shop today. Made it almost 40k miles with no issues though! And I got to ride in a flat bed and chat with a fellow car enthusiast.
MINI on a flatbed, a rite of passage in MINI ownership. Very glad you caught it before you cooked the engine. My guess is the Jarvic 7 is leaking.
Glad everything worked out alright for you and that you caught it in time and didn’t do some serious damage to your car.
Glad to hear you got it in time. Many years ago and the only time I let the wife drive my car. She had a problem. With the mods I had done it was running to lean and blew a hole through the head so needless to say it cost a lot , but I learned to pay a little more attention and put a set of gauges (afr, oil pressure & temp water temp boost) so a could see what was going on. I've not had a problem since.
I helped a friend do a thermostat housing replacement on his Gen 2 car and had that same thought... looked a lot like an artificial heart!
So did the problem happen when she was in the middle of the street race or after? My dad was always into cars but I don’t know if he realized how my mom drove. She was insane. I loved riding with her. Once on the way to get food we were in one of my dads cars, a Triumph I think I was very young, and she got in a race with some dude. Later he had a 70’s Challenger with a 440. I would ask her to squeal the wheels, she would light them up alway down the road. To funny.
No it's not the wife. It was me for not getting a tune before I made all the changes (mods, cam,head,header,exhaust,17%,2%,injectors,cai,intercooler ) and a few others a can't remember right now. So I blame myself.
When we started racing I put a giant light wired to the oil pressure switch. It really got your attention. I found in the heat of battle I couldn't be bothered to look at gauges. When we rallied I gave that job to my co-driver.
I got my S' exhaust fixed for free on Wed....the heat shield had detached and was rubbing on the exhaust pipe. The repair guy put in new screws [away from the gas tank] to secure the shield. On Thurs., I took my wife's S to the same guy. He found that her muffler had broken right at the exhaust pipe and welded in a piece to make the fix [safely]. Cost: $60. All in all, a great week.
Got a surprise today. In October I went to a car show at Blackhawk Museum. Today I received a trophy for first place in my class (particpant's choice 1st place). It was sponsored by MINI OWNERS OF AMERICA SAN FRANCISCO. I left early before they gave the trophies out. Next time I'll stay a little longer.
Bummer you weren’t there to receive the award in person but still had to be a thrill to receive it today.
Thanks. The reason I left was because almost all the same cars were there last year and the car that won was the clubs president son car so I thought the fix was in again.
