To each his own, but I think cars are made to in joy. Driving cleaning, polishing or just looking at them. If I had the money I would have a dozen of them. As far as the mini go's when I do drive it I go back to being a kid again. For that I expert to have a problem now and then. Nothing I can't handle.
While it would be interesting to have a multitude of vehicles at this time in my life cycle just having one fun ride that brings a smile to me is really all I need.
It definitely would be an interesting ride to take to the grandkids baseball and football games. Drive that to Saturday night cruise in and you would have to help to keep people from getting to close and drooling all over it. It’s a beautiful and unique car as well it should be for 1.7 - 2 million dollars.
Unfortunately they're all sold out. For some reason all their cars that they make they put a limited production of like 50 to 100 units.
I absolutely agree with you caseydog. Cars sitting around is hard on them. For me staring at a garage queen is pointless. For other's it's great. Different strokes as they say... Guess I'm a Germaphobe. It does nothing for me. I'll take 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO. If I'm going to dream it will be a big dream.
Well I know how it is to have cars sitting. I see both side. I have the Helmet, the 380SL( bought to sale, told my wife I would sale it in the spring that’s spring of last year) and the Exige. I am most picky with the Mini. If someone that would take care of it like Mark did and I have I would let it go. But man I love driving that car. The 380 I have fallen in love with but it will get sold, I just need to fix a few more items………or maybe that’s an excuse. I have to fix the odometer and AC and maybe a new soft top. That brings me to the Exige. Exige is British for special kind of hell/heaven all rolled into a small package. The problem is my wife wants me to drive my truck to work. She feels it’s unsafe to take the others. She is probably right. So that makes it hard to have time to enjoy the cars. I am lucky I got all three of the cars at a good price. Less the price of a new 4X4 pickup. So it’s easy to justify having them. The price of Exiges have shot up its insanity. I am tempted to sale it. But I am a glutton for punishment. So I can see @caseydog dilemma. Maybe Exige is British for Bang your head on a wall……….
Mmmmmmm ….. less than the price of a new 4x4. You’re showing your age as new 4x4 trucks can easily go for upper five to six figures.
Don’t know to much about exotic cars on back roads but I did take my MINI out today and cleaned the carbon out…..and I’m still smiling.
Talk about garage queens or was that covid queens. I took the 2020 Clubman JCW to the dealer for oil change and brake fluid change (2 years) from manufacture date of 1/2020. Only 2700 miles, so it has been sitting, but does get driven local, but not two agressivly like it should be. Now thinking it might have to turn into a NEW CM 2022 for the wife or possible an Audi Q5 for post covid overdue travel. JCW is comfortable to drive and once into the seat a great feel on the road. JCW Clubman sits very low to the ground. Since I have aged a bit closer to 80 now, need a tourer not a racer/shootbrake style. My ability to get in and out of the JCW lacks finese and flexibility. So I will let you know what I am driving in June or July if the market for cars opens up. Don
As some of you know, I am an automotive photographer, working primarily in the classic car auction world. I know a lot of guys who own multiple car (one with over 300 of them.) Keeping a collection of even a dozen cars clean and running is difficult. The guys with 50 cars need a full time person just to keep up with them. These cars often don't get driven for months at a time, which causes things to go bad. When I worked for a car magazine, the owner kept about 15 of his cars in the warehouse behind our offices. He rarely drove any of them -- the ones he drove were at his house. I actually tried to drive them on a regular basis just to keep them running, but even then, they didn't get enough serious driving to keep them running right. The muscle cars were the worst. He had a couple of Shelby GT500KRs that were very needy. His C4 ZR1 was a PITA, too. CD
That's the other problem. When I moved to Frisco 25 years ago, there were 8,000 people, and the country roads were minutes away. I could jump into the Miata, drop the top, and go play in the country any time I felt like it. Now, we have a population of 207,000, and those country roads are turning into subdivisions. Basically, where I live, driving the Audi Q5 around is a better experience than driving the MCS. If you are going to stop, go, stop, go, stop go (you get the picture), you may as well do it in a luxury car with an automatic and a Bang & Olufsen 5.1 surround audio system. CD
The same is happening here. Used to be 30 seconds to the country & now it's 10 minutes. Still not bad, but every year they build more subdivisions. The condo I live in now was a wonderful woodland 10 years ago. Heavy traffic & stick shifts hurt my left knee just thinking of it. Seven years ago my orthopedic doc told me to give up the stick shift life. That's when I sold my MINI. I love the GTI with its robot controlled DSG gearbox. Stop n go is still not fun, but at least it no longer hurts me.
That GTI is a awesome car and the DSG is a great trans. My wife just got a Honda Rebel Motorcycle with a DSG transmission. She loves it.
I took my new CAI down to have it power coated in black chrome. Now I'll have 2 so I can swap them out when they need to be redone.
