Tomorrow the city will be digging a big hole and finish with a patch that will flip your morning cup of Joe out of the cup holder.....
If’n it was the city you’re right, they would be digging up a water main but fortunately it’s a state freeway so hopefully it’ll be all good for the summer any how.
Gas prices are bad but so are other things. When I got home from work I took the Helmet to the parts store. I got oil and a filter for my wife’s mini and plugs for my truck. Total $155, for oil, filter and plugs. Crazy. And they were out of all the Mobile 1 so I got Royal Purple. I was going to work on my truck then changer her oil when she got home but it was 97 and the humidity was like 100% so I wimped out.
I did not explain the situation properly. The engine had work done to it but only for the purpose of maintaining and the body work was because of some road debris repairs. The car still looked like a first generation GP. The feeling I get from watching these sales is that as long as what is done to a car is in keeping with its intent then mods are ok. Coilover shocks, bigger brakes, header etc. don’t seem to detract especially in a car that has been driven. Now if’n lots of work was done to a very low mileage car then purists would cry foul but at the end of the day only your opinion matters.
I think I would be in the same boat. As long as it wasn't time consuming and cost a fortune I could probably deal with it. Most of the mods I have done can be undone. Although if I was going to part with GIR I'd have to rip the band aide. Sale would be as is and wanted OEM parts could be factored in.
What mods could be so egregious that prospective buyers would turn their backs on a GP1 ?? And especially on maintained driver. I get it if it’s a extremely low mileage garage queen but all kinds of people lament the fact that it’s a shame that these cars are not driven and enjoyed …. but if they are you have to to replace worn parts with hard to find if your lucky or unobtainium if your not. If you do replace parts with better parts you have in some way destroyed the essence of a factory hot rod Mini. The most interesting bit in all this ,to me, is that Mini’s and MINI’s have always lent themselves to being modded by their owners to make them better.
Turbo conversion. And really, anything non-OEM on the engine internals. There's a reason I bought a JCW and it's because all of the upgrade toys were designed to play well with each other. I had an R53 MCS that had the standard mods... airbox, intercooler, injectors, plugs, pulley, belt, cat-back exhaust and dyno-tune. It felt great, but never felt like a JCW, despite having the same basic mods.
I agree that a turbo conversion would not be keeping the essence of an R53 GP. A modified head or cam wouldn’t bother me.

As a matter of fact I think my car out performs a JCW car. Besides I like it. Sorry I forgot to say I still have a supercharger and love it. The sound is great.
I like having the SC. I have been eye balling the TVS9000, can have pretty significant gains with just a tune from what I have seen. It’s a pipe dream for now, to many other things on the list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree at one time I was looking at the TVS900, but changed my mind because I like to keep it looking as stock as I can. At one point I was looking for HP but I got older and new their would always be someone who has more than I do. I have changed several things but they look like the stock units. Like the intercooler.
Replaced my cabin air filter. I don’t know when it was last replaced so it was dirty but not disgustingly packed full of crud.

I didn't realize the F60 Countryman had a fluid filled engine mount just like the R53, which had a tendency to leak. Apparently, it does. I complained rather bitterly (in a nice way) that I though MINI would have learned their lesson as I had replaced the top engine mount on my R53 twice already and they're telling my the one on the Countryman is leaking. So the MINI dealer near my place replaced both mounts (top and bottom) and only charged me for the labor. They good willed the parts. (about $500). The service manager also told me the newer version of the top engine mount is not fluid filled so I should never see this issue again on the Countryman. The Countryman doesn't feel any different with the new mount. Also, since there are no courtesy cars available, the dealership called Uber to drive me home after dropping off the car and then another Uber to pick me up and drive me back to the dealership when the car was ready. I got to ride in the back seat of a Tesla Model 3.
