My wife's R56 had a check engine light so I ran the codes. Looks like it is the dreaded 3490 Map thermostat activation line disconnection. Looks like I may be changing a thermostat housing. I looked around and it is dry as a bone. I don't see any leaks. It has been in the high 90's to 100 for a few weeks here I am hoping its just an anomaly. I am going to order a new one and have it handy just incase. I am getting the kit from DT that includes the water pipe. @Minidave did you have to pull the intake manifold to replace the water pipe?
I can't answer that, I went with OEM unit at the time I needed to replace the Jarvik. Found out about these guys later on.... They seem to do a bit of MINI performance work.... https://www.instagram.com/motortek_italy/?hl=it
Today I went to open the MINI boot and I felt a small tear in the rubber boot handle switch cover. Turns out on the R56 you need to buy the entire assembly (Item #5) and then have the cover painted... Just for the failed rubber switch cover. On the first Gen, you could buy just the rubber piece.... Found a aftermarket cover over at Outmotoring... Order placed....
Had to do that on my wife’s mini. What is really bad it I had to replace the chrome weather strip on the belt line at rhe rear on her convertible. That thing was $230
Started Checker's up today. It's been a while. Next month they have a cars & coffee in Chico so I need to get ready. It's only two and a half hours away. I belong to 5 different clubs and none of them are within 50 miles of me. It's a shame how the old clubs have gone away they had a lot more going on than the new ones.
This morning I removed the boot handle so I could replace the torn switch cover.... Took all of 5 min to remove the assembly ( 4 x T20 torx screws)... Torn thin wall flexible switch cover. Then commenced to "Booger Pickin" the flexible cover from the hard rigid plastic... This took about an hour to accomplish.... It helped to use a small flat head screwdriver as a scraper. Mission Accomplished... Has a nice "clicky feel"... Much better than OEM........IMHO
This happened last week. It just took awhile for me to get the pictures together and up on Flickr. The owner of the ice cream shop at our start location drives a MINI also and offered to sponsor us. Gave all MINI drivers a 10% discount by showing our key fobs. Here is a link to a Flickr album of shots my wife and I took for our ice cream run. https://www.flickr.com/photos/beken/albums/72177720300858818
Over he past two days, after work and dinner I changed the thermostat housing on my wife's mini.............I hate the engineers that designed that thing! I bought a new coolant pipe but could not get the old one out or figure out how to get the intake off to make it easer so the old one stayed on. My wife drives about 3 miles to work and back 3 times a week. So I am going drive it to work and back that should be a total of about an hour on the interstate. If all goes well she and my younger daughter are driving to Florida
