Ah yes, another reason to get a sunroof. Unfortunately for me, I didn't realize this one wasn't equipped with one during the test drive (was too distracted by the instant euphoria). All I can remember is me making an offer right after.
Headlight rings, door handles, grill surround and the belt line. Next Plasti-Dip project is playing connect the dots with all the black trim, wheel arches to skirt to bumper trim and so on. The car looks incompleted, drives me nuts, damn OCD :mad2:
I would not bother or waste the $$ on Plasti-Dipping arches and side skirt and bumper trim. I have a cheaper easy fix for that and I am also OCD about my car being clean. Penetrol :ihih: I will shoot you a PM.
Thanks. I have seen a few posts on the Penetrol and have been meaning to try it, just haven't gotten there yet. What I mean by connecting the dots is I want to hit those "blank spaces" (body color) between the wheel arch and the skirt as well as the space bwtween the the wheel arch and the front spoiler, like in the picture below. To me, IMO if it was complete black line all the way around it would look more like a ground effects kit. What is nice about the Plasti-Dip is you can almost get the same texture as the trim.
Ahhhh ok, yeah that part never really never looked right (Completed) on the GP but than again its a GP.
Well, I got this far: Next up, side scuttles and if I can figure out the best way to attack the belt line. I may be overthinking it a bit.
Looking good. I taped off my beltline and lifted the tape while it was still wet, gives you a crisp line. The other nice thing about Plasti-Dip, if there is a little over spray, it will rub right off.
The rear belt line trim (Hatch & side rear windows) just pops off if you pull on it from one of the ends. The door trim has no clips at all you just need to pull very hard and it will just come right off. The front belt line (windshield one) is also held on by clips and you can just pop it off after you take out one screw at each end behind the door weather stripping at each end. The front trim is also a two piece unit and separates in the middle. For the side scuttles all you need to do is pry with a plastic tool very gently at the front edge just until you can grab the scuttle and pull it by hand. Do not pry to hard or you will dent you car. :mad2: You just need to pry the scuttle up so you can pull on it with your hand. It will pop out from a push clip and then you slide it to the front to release it from the back. Then you can just twist the bulb to remove it from the lens. At this point I would not remove the lens from the scuttle because the white tabs break easily. I just tape over the lens and S and trim it with an X-ACTO knife or razor blade. After you get everything off the car you can spray plasti-dip all the whole time piece at once on a piece of cardboard. I do not tape off anything on the trim because you are just spraying rubber on rubber. After everything is prepped and wiped down with acetone I spray 3 or 4 thin coats of warm Plasti-Dip and let them sit overnight to dry completely. After everything is dry just put everything back on the same way you took it off. *** You can also test putting them back on right after you take them off before you paint them just so you know how they go back on.
I would plasti dip your hood scoop, If I had a S that would of been the first thing I would have dipped, then the head light trim and grille:biggrin5: If you are feeling bold, joey modding those headlights would like sick, love the blue
Here's a pic of the front of my car plasti dipped and joey modded, bad pic though dirty, wet, and in the shop
I vote to keep the scoop Blue and the Silver lights Silver because they play well and tie in to the silver on the rims. Its all about the flow and accents. Believe it or not too much back on a non black car can look ghetto real fast. :rolleyes5:
Good Point. You could also pop the bulb out first then pull from the lense hole, get a little bow going, while at the same time push the rear part of the scuttle towards the front of the car. The rear tab should release and then you can pop the front stud out. Those S scuttles are stiff so you need to watch those tabs, they will snap off if you are not careful.
The Joey Mod does not look good on every color MINI. On some darker colored car other than black it tends to make the front of the car less defined. Just saying......
I do like the Joey Mod look on blue, just need to pick up some more balls. I'm not sure about the hood scoop being black since I have the stripes so close to it. Blacking that out might be overkill. When I do have enough money I will have a set of matte black wheels but until then I'll leave some bling on the body.
I've seen plenty and they look good. You should go for it, you can always peel it off if you don't like it.
