I am a Senior Systems Engineer for the largest fiber channel networking company in the world, or as my wife explains to lay people "I design computer networks" Been working in IT since I was 18 and interned at a Bank as a tape jockey...working 3rd shift, hanging tapes on IBM 3420 mainframe drives. I decided then that working indoors in a climate controlled environment was not such a bad gig. Have been working primarily from home the last 16 years, supporting a single, massive customer of ours.
I've been a web developer for the last 13 years and now added small business consulting. Before that industrial sales and marketing since '86
Even more original than might think. My first job out of school was at IBM Research, and I was there for years.
I have worked around the point of sale systems for the same company for over 16 years. Started by doing first level support, then second level support, then testing, then being a test lead for software releases, and now a project lead for enhancement releases or new hardware implementations.
I am a technician in a pharmaceutical company that manufactures drugs (legal type). I am also a retired US Army Soldier (Infantry (SCOUTS OUT) and then MP)
I am a Marine Engineer. I operate, repair and maintain merchant ship's physical plants and their auxiliary equipment. I am licensed for Diesel, Steam and Gas Turbine plants. I restore old British cars as a hobby. I was just thinking, Motor ships, Steam ships, Gas Turbine ships and old British cars all smell different. Dave
I work at a bank. And I hate it. You guys have some sweet sounding jobs, but you also have a few years on me. Though sadly I have almost a decade at this bank.
Career Truck Driver, 34 years this summer, approx. 3.5 million so far, everything from Dump/Straight truck to Triple Trailers, been in every one of the lower 48. Still enjoy it.
I am a flake! I have done all kinds of things. I worked for a construction company out of school because of summer jobs. Sold tires, and that got me in the racing business. I was the Goodyear racing tire dealer around Washington DC, and was involved with a race preparation business. Mostly we did Formula Fords. I was in the machine shop business, and that lead to working for an industrial engine manufacturer. Got tired of the airplane on my back and got in the HVAC business. Today I am partly retired and do HVAC engineering work for a hand full of clients.
One piece of auxiliary equipment ships have is an MSD or Marine Sanitation Device aka, "the **** tank" When I was a third assistant engineer, one of my duties was to pump down and hose out the MSD once a month. It was during those times that I would have loved to be working in a bank. It did encourage me to advance my licence. Dave
Retired banker. Former armored cav - worked in the maintenance end of things. Being a shadetree before the Army got me into maintenance, and am still a shadetree today. I spend some time helping other Mini owners modify or repair their cars (as long as they can follow some simple rules - don't ask to pay me to do a whole job by myself, don't be offended if I tell you I'm busy on your desired date, and once you are here, no whining). The rest of the time I'm either involved in homebuilding issues or, on nice days, riding my Harley.
Wow....what a mix. I feel so inadequate now. Been a residential and commercial building/plumbing/mechanical inspector for the county for over 2 decades now. Before that....well let's just say I was playing the field.
For the last 11 years have been in APR (auto paint repair) for car dealers, repair bumpers, scratches and chips. Prior to that was in manufacturing of wire rope for 24 years. If you have ridden the San Francisco cable cars we made that rope, we also made the arresting rope used to stop F-18's and everything else that lands on our aircraft carriers.
Stagehand, Scenic carpenter, Props builder. If you can draw it, I can build it, ship it, and run the show.
