I'm retired and don't do jack s%#@! Wait a minute, I did just buy a motor- cycle in Sept. and I'm currently very happy!
Dat's da troof, YO! :cornut: Did I get it right, or do I sound like an old person who still doesn't get it? Never mind, I need to work on my comprehension... I thought you were a youngster.:mad2:
No, I'm retired for several years and teach college auto courses part time, it gives me access to all the college benefits like the shop and health facilities for free, plus I can take classes myself for free if I want to. It's one way to stay involved in the community and not just hole up in the house on the computer all day. But it does have it's challenges, and not all of them come from the students. If you've ever worked for a huge corporation, a big school is no different.
Retired after 20 years active duty Air Force, returned home to Pittsburgh Pa, went back to graduate school and have been serving the past 12 years as a readjustment counseling therapist working with combat veterans.
WOW, there is an interesting group of people here. Me, I'm a Goldsmith. I design and produce items of personal adornment, i.e. jewelry and stuff like that. I operated a one man studio at the same location for 28 years. I closed my studio 3 years ago, but still have a studio at home. I have been on vacation for the last 35 years --or it has felt like that . Before that, I practiced law for 5 years before I realised it wasn't for me. To thy own self be true...
Don't know that I'll ever retire. I wouldn't know what to do with all the extra time. Maybe I'll just get to the point where I can pick and choose my customers.
I'm completely retired now, having relegated myself to domestic engineering with a few travels thrown in to break up the monotony. Every day vertical and above the turf is a great day... I still dabble in the Vintage Mini Racing world as much as I can. And, by the way, after nearly seven years I'm still trying to come to grips with that statement, "The worst day of being retired is better than the best day working." I really DID love my job. Stefanie..... My dad was an Animal Husbandry graduate from Cal Poly SLO. He developed a modified feed regimen that increased milk production in dairy cows. His employer at the time (long before my time) thought he was a kook and didn't take a second look. He really felt strongly that it worked and I believe he had some data to back it up. Though I'm sure technology has long since surpassed his theories and work, I'd love to know the Science behind it and if it does in fact work.
Good God I guess I'm the only broke person in the restaurant business? Currently I'm in the Sushi restaurant business. But it pays like ****. So my friend in Minnesota is going to get me a job with his company that pays a lot better than my job and has benefits as well. It'd be great to also get a part time/intern at a car shop.
From Ft Lauderdale to Minnesota.... Do you realize how F&@kin cold it gets there? Your body will crack from the difference in temperature... I used to do business in International Falls.... They have the record at -46F.... My hand stuck to the car door handle and I thought it removed a layer of skin.... All the cars have plugin engine block heaters... It's crazy cold there... This is what the women look like there... Blind date bar hookups can sometimes be a real shocker... Just sayin...
Let's see... to pay the bills, I'm a DBA for a direct marketing company, targeting the college market. On the side, I'm an actor, stage combatant, and musician.
I have been an Aerospace Engineer for 32 years. That includes; software programmer and test engineer on the Space Shuttle Elec Power System, test engineer on the B2 Bomber data acquisition system, test engineer and program manager on Titan Rocket Inertial Guidance System, and finally program manager and staff systems engineer on various systems associated the Air Force's launch/test ranges.
Dang, must have dozed off, first I've seen this thread. What do I do? Meet a bunch of guys for coffee of a morning, eat lunch and play golf in the afternoon. Otherwise, explore the world of craft brewing and do MINI stuff. What? There's something else to do?
Cool! I was stationed there from '79-'84. Loved it there. Best all around climate of anywhere I have ever lived. (and that's a lotta places) :biggrin5: I would love to visit there again, but CA has changed too much since I left.
