My wife and I own a Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting center in Hampton, VA. I know, I know, everybody thinks Maaco is just a cheap auto painting joint. While some are, mine isn't. We're the leading Maaco in VA and usually in the top 20 in the chain. My center writes more estimates than any other Maaco in the chain. Not to mention we're a direct repair facility for several major insurance companies as well as a authorized repair facility for Enterprise Rent A Car. I've been with Maaco since 1981 when I started out cleaning and reassembling cars after paint. Anything related to autobody repair I've done, from pinstripes to frame work, to paint work. We've owned our center since 1992. I also organize events for Hampton Roads club MINI and used to be the autocross chairman for the Old Dominion Region of the SCCA. Pretty much makes me a car guy for life.
Geez, I am a little embarrassed to post what I do........ But here goes, I work for the County as a Building Inspector/plans examiner for new construction. Mainly residential. Sorry, no 3 letter acronyms for me.
Nothing wrong with that. Life takes us in different directions, some planned and some not. My goal was simply to be an aircraft mechanic with United Airlines and look what happened. Jim
I'm enjoying this thread a lot more than I expected. Nice work, Metalman. I'm an architect (since '81) now working in the smaller office of a 2 office 20+ person firm. We do just about anything but houses, lots of university work. The last year or so I have been working a lot on veterinary hospitals - NC State, U of Fla, & now Auburn. In return for such dry endeavors, I occasionally get a really fun (to me) project, like a small stone/heavy timber chapel in the Tennessee hills.
I'm a line cook at the 99 Restaurant in Billerica, MA. Been working in restaurants almost 15 years now... Way too long.
I'm an IT guy. Systems integration, email, virtualization, disaster recovery planning, project management, etc. I also manage a hockey team, the entire hockey league (with 30 teams) and the website for the league (although I'm NOT a web developer). I also have two 21-year old twins that I occasional parent and a wonderful wife, who manages me
Seems like a bunch of interesting jobs. I hope I can be so lucky. I'm a victim of the economic downturn and currently stuck working at Home Depot... trying to save enough to move away for better opportunities.
I'm a civil engineer for a mid-size engineering firm with offices on the East coast that specializes in designing water and wastewater treatment plants. You flush, I get paid - we clean the water going in and the water going out. I do the land development associated with the plants, pump stations, and pipelines. And I'm an expert in AutoCAD C3D. Before the recession hit, I worked on residential and commercial developments. I got lucky and switched jobs before the housing market hit bottom. And I count myself as one of the jobs Obama saved - I've spent the last couple years working on a plant in Florida that has been funded by stimulus money.
I am a techincal trainer for a major insurance company. I train the guys who write estimnates on cars after a collision. Prior to that I worked in the collision repair industry. Definatly a car guy...
