    Try giving Chad a call at Detroit Tuned, he is a great MINI tech & may have your answer.

    Love the wind powered idea. If you break wind in the car does it speed up?

    What drives the speedo? I'm pretty sure it's the wheels going round....

    I believe it is all electrizicle. I think the ECU somehow drives it. I know that's not much help Chris, but I'm an old guy who grew up with actual speedo cables. Mechanical simplicity & bliss.

    Me too Chuck. I got this horrible thought it might be driven by the ABS sensors which I've removed. Maybe it's wind driven?

    If that's a joke then actually you're correct. The speedo is calculated by the wheel rotation using all the ABS sensors.....so it looks like I don't have a speedo. Info came from Way Motors.

    Plug them back in. Pretty easy of a job. Unless you've put them in the dustbin.

    sold 'em Chuck. boo hoooooooo. who needs a speedo in rally! but the worrying part is would else does the ECU do with these sensors?

    You don't need a speedo, but be careful on the transit sections. Don't want to get popped for speeding. Take the MINI out with someone following you & make a cheat sheet of speeds in different gears & rpms.

    I never look at the speedo on a Rally and with the Mini speedo being in a place I would never look for sure I won't use it. The only issue is when I take it to the tech test I believe they check the speedo to see it works. Plus I have to drive to work. Transits are very small with no cops with radars. The other issue is I cut back the wires'plugs to the loom so I will need them too. I'm going search around scrap yards to see what I can find.
