In 2006 the official MINI published specs show a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph) for the MINI Cooper S.

I'm not sure at all what the point of this thread is or why it even in an area meant for stories from the road. Please explain.

I stand by my post. What you put above should have been in the first post.

Just waiting to hear about the cam/head that got you to 146mph....

No data log, just a video will do.

I want to hear the motor running around 140 - 146 mph and then you hitting the 100+ shot of NOS.

:cornut: Sorry, never heard of it. I'm sure however that we had plenty of R53 people who would call that Hog Wash!

it is an aerodynamic limit. the stock MINI doesn't make enough power to take the stock (brick-like) shape past 134 mph. when total drag equals available power, no more acceleration will take place.

I believe it's the speed at which pieces will begin to fly off of the car.

    Dave O do you concur?

Usually when a thread like this gets started, it begins with an eclectic statement to stir the pot in the first post, followed by many other posts by people like myself who take the bait, just like I'm doing now.

Then there is a followup post that should have been in the very first post that states the initial poster's true agenda, once enough of the desired attention has been garnered.

But back to the point, if that truly is the point (although something tells me there is a performance part post that will be added to this thread by the original poster, but then again, maybe I'm just cynical): 140 MPH (or just a tick below that) is my brick wall. I MAY be able to surpass that, but on the track, that's where I hit the wall--I run out of track to go any faster, but at that point, I'm not accelerating much, so I doubt there's much more left than that in my car.

For the record, 134mph is too low for pieces to fly off the car.

My first piece (a splitter) fell off at 135 mph....:)

No limit that I know of on my R53 GP. Gone over 130 many times. Mini claimed top speed of 150.

wow.. look at all the haters??

I was told and read when I bought my first MINI ( 02 R53) that the car was mph limited to 130 or 135 MPH. I was wondering if anyone has gone beyond that. OR how many have heard the same thing and not tried to pass the 130 mark??

Thanks Nate with the 134 Max stated by BMW MINI.

Beaner.. I think the 134 was with the advertised BHP/Torque numbers, yes?? I have to agree with the 'Brick' body design..lol

I guess that , the base HP must have been that MPH Limit, but it seems there is NO "limiter set in the ECU' that will hold the MPH there.. Yes??

I was in Orlando and hit 146 MPH ( engine run) on a 6th gear pull, and actually felt pretty good as it passed the 135 MPH Mark. Just wondering...

    Thumper

(PS Nate, move this to what section it needs to be in.. cool??)

Thread moved to 1st Gen Cooper S area. Still trying to figure out the point of the thread though.

MINI never said there was hard limit in the ECU at 134 MPH. That just where HP/Torque and a brick like shape ran out of steam. Increasing the HP/Torque will push through that limit no matter if it's with a cam, nitrous, ECU tuning or a combination of these and other methods.

MINI rates the 06 GP with a 149 MPH top speed and the gearing is the same as all other 05/06 models so we know that the non GP S models are not limited by gearing.

Aero is a *****. At high speeds, there would be so much to be gained if someone could figure out a reaonably priced way to decrease drag, but I suspect it's not worth the effort.

Heck, I've even heard people say the side mirrors create a huge amount of drag, it's probably true.

Are not all BMW products governed? Looked up a 2012 335, and it says, "governed at 155"?

The 155mph is from a "gentleman's agreement" between BMW, MB and Audi to keep the Green Party and Safety zealots off their back. It was easily defeat-able.

The agreement did not extend to certain types of cars such as ///M, AMG and RS models.
