    Warning my opinion here....

R compounds on cold dry pavement are the equivalent of ice driving.

My 10 cents worth: What tire is best is like what oil is best. Everyone has their favorite & there won't be universal agreement. Me I like a high performance summer tire, but hate that when the temps drop in fall they can be quite dicey. For that reason I run a high performance A/S tire. Yes it is a compromise, but for me it works with good road holding in the dry & great road holding in the wet. For winter nothing beats a dedicated winter tire.

Reasonable to me, just like changing oil at 3,000 mile intervals is reasonable but then again, some don't maintain their cars as I do. You asked for input.

I like the idea of this, which is why I also wish everyone would build a "My Garage" and post that kind of info along with other mods done so people could just click peoples "My Garage" button and see all that info...

I am running Kumho 4x high performance all seasons. Mine are a 225-45-17, but that is a GTI size. On Babs Clubster we run the same tire in 205-50-16. I'm thinking we will get 40,000 miles or so out of her set.

I liked those tires enough that when I needed to put tires on the GTI I went & bought the same ones.

There is a new version of this tire & it comes with a $100 rebate.

I've said it before, My tires rotate every time I drive my MINI.

I find that the front tires do wear a little faster than the rears, but the rear tires aren't far behind the fronts, in terms of wear, and are about ready to be changed out when the front tires need to go.

I don't bother to switch the tires around front to rear, I don't think I get enough extra mileage out of my tires to make it worth the hassle.

It might also help to add wheel width and offset to the setup you are running.

I'm running Yokohama A539 tires in size 165/60 R12 on my Mini.

    :D

Oh, and on my MINI I'm running Yokohama YK580 215/45 R17 tires on the original S-lite wheels. After the car's original runflats wore out, I happily made the switch to non-runflat conventional tires of various brands for the past decade. And I've had no punctures since (knock on wood).

I think these YK580 tires are a good all-around solution for the MINI. They are not an all-out performance tire, but they handle well, they are good in the wet, and they are not noisy. I'm happy with them.

Nitto 01 or Toyo RA1 225/45/15 8 inch wide rims in rear, 9 inch wides up front, track. 8mm spacer in rear, 15 mm up front, I think the ET on the 949UL is roughly +35.

16 inch for the street, rota slipstreams, et +36 ish, no spacers. Falken Azeni's.

Not exactly a performance tire, but I gotta cart my kiddos around. Haven't tried them in the rain yet (yay, California drought!)...but I'm counting on them being much better than the run flats I just got rid of.

    Michelin PSS 205/45/17

Excellent, but pricey. Also, they're slightly larger than the 205/45/17 Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's I replaced... or maybe the Hankooks are a little undersized?? I know there are variations between brands, but I'm not sure which one is more accurate.
