Reasonable to me, just like changing oil at 3,000 mile intervals is reasonable but then again, some don't maintain their cars as I do. You asked for input.
I've said it before, My tires rotate every time I drive my MINI. I find that the front tires do wear a little faster than the rears, but the rear tires aren't far behind the fronts, in terms of wear, and are about ready to be changed out when the front tires need to go. I don't bother to switch the tires around front to rear, I don't think I get enough extra mileage out of my tires to make it worth the hassle.
145/10 Yokomamas A 008.......they get rotated frequently because I have them off for one reason or another and forget which wheel went where. On the Blue Max I'm running Michy Pilot Sports in 215/45-17, I'm not as impressed with them as I hoped I would be especially in the wet, I actually liked the cheapy Kumho ASX and even the Conti DWS better that I used to run, but since none of them seem to last more than 20K miles, I'm hopeful these will do better. They are quiet and smooth - I'll give them that. I haven't had to use them in much snow yet, so no reports on that..... I put the Conti DWS on the wife's Audi at the same time as the MINI - she has about 25K on hers and they still look fine, I don't know why they didn't last on the MINI....they were tread wear warranted for 50K, I got 20......but the warranty was only pro-rated against another set of DWS, so I decided to try the Michys instead.
Update. I was washing the car today and noticed the Yokohama YK580 tires on my MINI were made in the USA. Personally, I select products based upon quality and value, and when those two things are met and the product is made right here in the US, that's even better!
Will be installing some Michelin PSS's today. 215/45 17. I'm so ready to get off of these run flats and see what everyone is talking about I'll post my findings.
215/45R17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on NM RSe05 17x7.5" Wheels with +45mm offset using 8mm spacers to clear my KW Coilovers. Starting to wonder if I could fit 225's in there....
My Yokos (Avid Envigors) were US made as well. I LOVE the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports I recently had installed. I think you will too.
I did like those Dunlop Direzza Z1 Starspec's but the price with no mileage warranty and mediocre reviews kept me away from them. I'm all about a cool looking tread though. I'm looking to get a set of track wheels and tires for auto x this summer. Those and the Toyo Proxes R888's are at the top of my list.
Star Specs on a MINI are phenomenal. It's not about how they look. It'a about how they stick. And they're 200 treadwear autocross tires... of course they have no mileage warranty. They're disposable. Running them on the street makes this an expensive hobby.... I burn through a new set in one week at MOTD every year.
I know the look doesn't matter, but I appreciate a cool tread pattern. I usually go thru a set a year, I don't do auto x or get to the track very often but I do ALOT of "spirited" driving on back roads. I'm doing the Dragon this year! Can't wait. The Michelin Pilot Super Sports have been a HUGE improvement over the Continental run flats I had on the car. Loving how the car feels now. Super smooth
Love my Dunlop Star Specs and I will never buy any other tire for Summer use. I don't care about the tread wear just because they stick like no other tire even Michelin SS. I also I don't care about MPG because I run Meth and WOT when I can because its all about FUN.
I see several people running 215/45r17 instead of the 205. Do those fit good on a 7 inch wide wheel? The tire selection seems to be a lot better. They will be going on some Enkei J10s that are 17x7.
I've noticed that since I put 215/45 17 tires on my MINI my speedometer and GPS readings are closer than they were with 205/45 17 tires.
Savvy, I saw on another thread you were running the Potenza S-04. I'm strongly considering those. How have they been working for you?
