In 1971, I began restoring a 1938 Ford Pickup - Flathead 85 V8. What a great little truck it was, and an equally great project for a 15 year old and his Dad...

On my 16th birthday I got my Mom's hand me down 1967 Mustang coupe. Clearwater aqua with aqua interior. 289 V8 and 3 (yes 3) on the floor. No power steering or brakes. Only options were the V8 and an AM radio.
Started modding right away. Added a Tach on the column, replaced the curb dented hubcaps with Baby Moons (anybody remember them?) and a Barefoot gas pedal and dimmer switch from JC Whitney.
What a babe magnet!
Of course I wrecked it. (16 year olds are idiots!)-

First cars
I got to drive my folks 1971 Ford Torino w/351W when I got my license (1980). They let my older brother have it so then I got to drive dad's 1978 Buick LeSabre w/pinging v8.
The car I first owned was a well used 1970 Dodge Challenger w/383, A727 torqueflite w/shift kit, big Holley 750, headers and numerous issues. I worked on that thing "all the time". Learned a lot...Loved the sound of that big 8. Went through a lot of gas-

1977 Chevy Vega with a 350 in it. Used a Chevy Monza for a donor car and put all the mounts and front springs. Fast was a understatment.

1969 VW Beetle..... Very fond memories.. Empi Exhaust extractor with a single stinger trumpet.... It blew flames with back fires....
Achievements.... Got it airborne, with all 4 tires off the road.... Crossed a river with it.... The door seals were water tite and it had rudimentary steering with the front wheels.... Make sure you dry the brakes before really needing them....
Those were the best of times in 69.... -

My first car had a 351 Cleveland, unfortunately it was in this 1978 - 79 Mercury Cougar.
It was the size of the Ark and would fly if you gave it a mile to get going. It sucked at turning and stopping but everyone could ride to the Drive-In in just one car. :lol:Attached Files:

1973 AMC Javelin. It only took me a few months to totale it and a cop car. Oh yea and the police officer shattered he's wind sheld when his head hit it. Bad seen man! I was 15
