Well... the math is kinda strange. It makes sense to a software developer who starts counting time with zero, though.
I saw a statement somewhere like "MOTD 2012: 10 years of fun on the Dragon". Techincally, it has been 9 years of fun on the dragon. The first MOTD may have been MOTD #1, but it was year 0. The time that passed between MOTD #1 and MOTD #2 was the first year. That means that MOTD #10 is actually celebrating 9 years of fun on the Dragon (just like celebrating the 9th anniversary of MOTD #1).
As with every life situation, I believe that there was a Seinfeld episode that dealt with this same complexity. Kramer had booked a key NYC party spot for Dec 31, 1999. While that transition from 1999 to 2000 was a cool date, the actual new millenium started one year after that date (when Newman booked the same spot, if I remember correctly).
I couldn't make it this year, but I'm already looking forward to celebrating 10 years of fun on the Dragon next year, in 2013, and my own personal 4th visit to MOTD. -
