I have been doing a lot of DIY work on my '09 lately with a great deal of help from the MoM crew. Anyway, I decided while the car is down for repair to tackle replacing the oil pan gasket as the dealer had pointed out some time ago that the seal was leaking. (More like a weep than a leak). Stopped at the dealer to get the replacement gasket, # 11137565928 and the parts dept said that it has been replaced with # 83190404517. The latter is a tube of sealant. No more gasket. Has anyone else gone thru this? Penskeparts still lists the original gasket part and Sewell MINI uses the sealant number with the gasket photo. MINI of Atlanta redirects you from the gasket number to the sealant. If you did this, was it easy to work with the sealant? Thanks.
MINI and BMW have gone to the a gasket sealant but you will be able to find the oil pan gasket on the aftermarket from Felpro, elring, and Victor Reinz. At my BMW/MINI shop we usually use the aftermarket oil pan gasket. ECS is listing a elring gasket. 2009 MINI Cooper S L4 1.6L > Engine > Gaskets & Seals > ES#2581086 Oil Pan Gasket - 11137565928
I know the product development engineers at Victor Reinz. They have a very good product...I use their VR-90 material on my product line at work... I believe they have a different name for it for the automotive market. But it has very good properties for oil pan application. I've used Loctite Master Gasket in a very thin layer on both sides of the gasket. ... but it's very important for the pan and block to be completely clean and oil free..
