Wow just rode the Vancouver/Whistler GranFondo on Saturday and it was amazing.

Hands down the best organized sporting event I've ever participated in. 120KM (75 miles) from downtown Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky highway to Whistler. Scenery was great, although I've ridden the route many times so it wasn't new to me.

We had one dedicated lane all the way to Whistler. 4000 riders, over 15000 cones used along the route, along with probably 100+ police and volunteers to manage traffic. Cyclists were given complete right of way (even over MINIs) the entire route.

I had about a dozen friends riding.

If you're interested in an fantastic event and want to come to Vancouver in 2011 you should register. Registration starts Sept 20th.

One sad note, a cyclist who's front wheel got stuck in an unmarked storm drain and was pitched forward at 30 mph onto his face, is in intensive care in an induced coma at the moment. Pray for him.
