BBS (German) and OZ (Italian) seem to be the big ones, plus ASA (South Korea), who license BBS's quality control. I'm sure there's a ton of smaller volume brands that make fantastic wheels. Mostly you get what you pay for. And some brands have different levels of wheels aimed at different price points.

A list of reputable names off the top of my head. These are just the ones I particularly like, there are loads of other quality wheel companies I'm probably missing.
The top 4 players in my eyes are these guys. They manufacture wheels for OEM applications, race applications, and contract out their services for other wheel companies.
BBS
OZ
SSR
Volk/Rays Engineering
Other good companies:

Well, there is BBS, SSR. Several manufacturers like Motegi and Enkei have nice options in the upper range of their offerings. Team Dynamics makes a nice rim. Kosei has been a decently priced alternative for track rats. There are a lot of nice wheels out there that don't come in Mini size. There is also some nice custom options out there. Perhaps our resident wheel whores will chime in with more info and pics.

BBS for sure is at the top in quality. Though somewhat pricey you can't go wrong...

Kodiak. But not sure he is up to speed yet as there were times some of us were waiting a year for wheels. Very high quality.

Team Dynamics ??? - Here's what happened to my Pro Race 1 after two years of once a month track events.
I got a set of Braid wheels on the way.Attached Files:

On a moral front, Rota steals the majority of their designs from the real wheel companies.
They are nice and affordable though. -

Basically, it's a pick two: weight, price, strength. $200 for a 15-lb 17" wheel? Don't expect it to hold up to years of abuse. And paint quality is pretty closely tied into price, i.e. don't expect super high quality paint for a sub-$200 wheel. >$300/wheel, now you're talking high quality finish.
EDIT: didn't see Rally's second post. That's a good list. -
Find Liquid Metal Static custom wheels by size
$145 ea, bent one when I was running 35 aspect ratio (my bad) and they just don't wear well. Have a # of scratches and dings that seem to be coming way to easily. They look good from a couple feet away so they work for now.
In retrospect I'd pony up some more and get something of better quality -
I had a very good experience with Rotas. I thought they were better then any of my two sets of Kozies. Very well balanced wheel.
That was about 4 years ago, so have they changed? -
Kodiak does this also. -

If i were getting wheels right now, and i wasn't broke, and i was patient, I would be thinking about Speedline. I dunno...not many people have them and I've always had a thing for them. Decent weight, really strong, not super crazy expensive, etc. Simple and good looking.
If I had more money it'd be BBS or Volk.

They are not creative in that they rip-off designs from other companies as Rally said.

Fikse are real baller status. My faves if I ever have money to throw away on wheels.
They'll look nice on my 997 GT3 that I'll never have.

Tunershop has a lot of great wheels:
