Finding 15" in a 5 or 6 is not easy. Just ran across XXR Wheels. Any thoughts on these?

5 or 6 is definitely a skinny wheel which will make the search more difficult. Finding 15x7's would be a breeze.

 

That is what I was afraid you were going to say. Yes, I am finding they are hard to locate and less weight then the 13 lb OEM is not happening either. :sad:

Yah, the OEM 15's are pretty light, which is super nice.

If you're not opposed to stepping up to 7" wide wheels, you could look into the 949 wheels. Only 11.9 pounds for the 15x7's.

I personally love their look and they're available in some nice colors. A great performance/autox wheel.

Enkei is a darn fine midline wheel, not a BBS but also not a Sportmaxx.

Weds used to be another decent midline wheel but that was years ago, I don't know what they are like now.

 

I am learning that when you guys talk, it is in regard to what you all do most, which is tracking. I realize that a top of the line wheel is necessary for that, as it should be. I do not skimp in any way when buying the tack that keeps me on the top side of my horse. With that said I do not track, auto-X or the like. With that in mind what is a decent, light wheel?

I never track my car and never plan torrr: I still think a quality wheel is important.

I tried cheap wheels once (Flik) and will never do it again.:frown2:

With that said, if you want light wheels you're going to have to go with track-oriented wheels. The only reason a company works hard to lighten a wheel is because they're making a performance wheel.

 

Sorry Rally, I left out the "stance" group. You make a good point, skimping never pays off in the long run.

PGT got my attention with the wheels at 10 pounds. The Price others quoted was scary, but I went to their site to check things out. Was impressed as it opened, but was unable to search for a certain size, found it user unfriendly and left after hearing the opening song three times. Is there a trick to making it work?

A poor quality wheel will also be more likely to bend, which is more of a problem on the crappy roads I drive than some tracks.

Light strong cheap, pick two. I chose decently light, decently strong, and fairly cheap Rials as wheels to tide me over until I get something nicer. Sort of a temporary middle ground.

Light wheels are a nice improvement even on the street, but durability is important too.

This is very true, and the point I was trying to make as well.

The same can be said for the lower quality finish you find on cheap wheels. On my cheap set of wheels, the clearcoat was spidering within a year of ownership (and that was with regular, acid-free cleaning).

 

if you're going to run a 15", be sure to run a stiff tire. With ALL that sidewall, you're going to want some steering feel left. I made the mistake of running Kumho Ecsta SPT and though the ride was like a Caddy, I felt the "fun" noticeably diminished.
