People don't usually post "My car did not break today, it just ran as expected" when everything goes right. Forums tend to bring out all the negatives as people are looking for help. With any population of a decent size there are goig to be a few with problems. The forums tend to accentuate that.

Honda's are very good automotive appliances. Just like my fridge a Honda just runs. Start modding the Honda and pushing the envelope like many of us have then you will break things.

1st gen look for an 05 or 06

2nd gen 08 or later, the 07's had the usual MINI/BMW first year bugs.

Mine is a first gen 2006 MCS. To me it is the best of the breed. Others may have a difference of opinion.

    2006 MCS for the win!

Another comment on reliability... MINI has been suffering as of late in the JD Power initial quality and reliability surveys, but you have to remember that one of the most common consumer complaints is wind noise. That's right - the car made it hard to hear their phone calls, so they complained on the JD Power surveys. :mad2:

Got in MINI this morning and it started right up. Drove to Post Office, no issues. Mailed someones SWAG for their Supporting Membership and got back in the MINI where it started and ran with no problems till I arrived at home where I shut it down, again with no problems.

Become a supporting member and I'll go and test the MINI under these grueling conditions again. Of course I will report back too.

Here is my .02 When I got my 03 MCS around 6 years ago, my wife liked it so much, except for the manual shifting, that she dumped her 05 BMW 330ci convertible and ordered a new 09 MCS auto for her self :D It's not just the car either, we joined the local Mini club and now they are our best friends we have  One more thing, as I work part time at a Mini only repair shop, keep in mind they are not Hondas or Toyotas, like has been said, they are high strung little sports cars, especially the "S" models. One last thing, look at my garage, modding is VERY addicting  Be careful :drool. Also, if your looking at used, look for an unmodified car, we have seen some people come in with a new, "used", car and the modding was not done professional like and have had problems. Stick with a good clean stockish car and do it all yourself :cornut:

Instead of "Why is everyone's Minis Broke or breaking?"...your new thread should be

"Why is everyone's Honda so Boring?"

The minor mods on Poco make him more to my liking, and none have been an issue. Regular maintenance is just part of owning any car.

So the OP asks, "Why is everyone's Mini's Broke or breaking?" Umm....the same reason why our bodies are broke or breaking, age  Kind of a goofy question.....would you expect a "used" car to get newer?

I think what you should do is sell your car now and buy a Honda or something, you're going to spend the rest of your days looking for something to fail, instead of enjoying your car.

Because your car only had one small problem, a tensioner that backed out - which wasn't a part failure at all, it was an assembly failure - they didn't torque it properly at the factory (which wasn't even a BMW or MINI facility), and then it took 6 trips for your dealer to figure out that your sway bar bushings were not up to spec - again, hardly a catastrophic car failure tho, was it?

But now you have developed a mind set, and you will not be able to really have fun with your car becasue you're convinced it's a bad car - even tho it isn't.

I still want to know what people expect from this lawsuit..... free money? a new car? warranty for ever? new engines?

Whatever it is I'd advise you not hold your breath, at best it will be a voucher for money off on a new one, a discount you could probably get anyway.

As reliable as a Honda, well no. I have owned Honda's in the past & yes they can be very reliable. The trouble I have with them is for me they are so boring. The MINI is a fun car that makes me actually smile every time I drive it. No Honda could do that for me. At almost 97k I'd say my MINI has been pretty darned reliable & a load of fun. :D Go out & drive one it may make you a believer too.

    Welcome to M/A....

I have a 2007 Honda Cr-V for my wife. If I want to catch a nap, I take the Honda because it is so boring that it puts me to sleep. It will probably run forever but is in no way a comparison to my MINI. Drive a MINI for yourself and I doubt you will need one of us to convince you.....
