I remember when I was 16, my mom and dad had a BMW 320i (yes, I learned to drive a stick on it and LOVED THAT CAR!... Also got my first speeding ticket in it. Ouch!). BMW was still fairly exotic here and if you saw another one, you flashed your lights and got flashed. Boy has THAT changed since then... :frown2:
I've learned to look at the antenna on the MINI as it approaches, if it's stock probably not gonna get a return wave. Oh well
Here in CT, I do something similar. We have front plates required by law and if they have a relocation(tow hook) kit and / or Euro Front plate, they'll wave. If not, it's hit or miss.
I got a big smile and a wave from a lady in another chili red Clubman today! Around here, people in old British cars wave at each other, whatever the Marque. People in pickup trucks with dogs also wave at each other! Dave
The town I live in has a population of about 20,000, there are five other MINIs in town and not a single one of them will wave, so aggravating especially after going to a MINI event such as MOTD or MITM you always have one hand off the wheel waving to someone..
I want a longer antennae! Will one of those big CB whip antennas screw in? I'd clip the end to the front bumper! Dave
Absolutely, us roadster drivers just stuck a solidarity fist straight up in the air, at least in the EVSCC crowd.....back then. How 'bout a special wave that says 'Yea, I'm in the old F150 right now running honeydo's but the MINI is safely parked waiting for my return.
Haha. I got my first wave this morning. Quite a nice surprise on my way to work. I didn't think to check if he was sporting a stubby on top. Happy New Year everyone!!
Obviously I'm way behind on this article. But I just saw it, and have to say it's fantastic. I'm a girl, and I always wave. The only thing I'm bummed about is that I don't live in LA so I can't MINI-Wave to Wil Wheaton!
I always wave and have since I got my first MINI in 2005. Recently I had to drive a corolla for over a month. It was very hard to resist the urge to wave and occasionally I would forget and wave usually resulting in puzzled looks.
I was a pretty hardcore waver for the first 4 or so years. I have slacked off as the return waves diminished. Every once in a while, I will get a wave and be so suprised that I barely get a wave back before they are gone. I can't remember the last time a girl waved at me. Maybe they are weirded out about waving to another girl...at least the ones who aren't on the phone. Who knows.
I wave a lot--with few returns. Got a wave today though and it is such a neat thing! It was a girl too! I will continue to wave even in the face of discouraging disinterest! I will continue to wave I will continue to wave I will continue to wave I will continue to wave I will continue to wave I will continue to wave I will continue to wave................
