Haha, I feel the same, Nathan! I just finally got a lot of my programs up and running and everything is the way I want it (despite running Vista that was pre-installed on my laptop at point of purchase). If I upgraded to Windows 7, would all of my Vista programs need to be upgraded as well? I have a few pro video and graphics editing software applications that were donated by friends in the biz and can't afford a new version if I'd have to upgrade!!! :frown2::frown5:
I know we're all supposed to think that Mac's are better in every way, shape and form. But I have a super mac pro that is more powerful than the space shuttle, and while its a great platform, the interface is, and I know you won't like this, inferior. Working with multiple applications on multiple monitors, the Mac is absolutely kludgy. Sorry, but despide all of windows faults (and there are many), its a better interface, if for no other reason its more flexible. dp
The update process has started. Doing a fresh install on the laptop 1st. I don't keep any data on the laptop that I can't blow away and recreate.
Just did my second computer and it went very smooth - this time about 2 hours. I was impressed it installed all my connected peripheral items (2 printers - external hard drive) with out even a question.
Mine took about 3 hours total including updates and hunting the right driver for the laptop display. Bluetooth works better now, I guess Toshiba wrote a better app, and all the software I use day to day has been installed. This was a Vista to 7 clean install. The laptop runs a heck of a lot better on 7 than it did on Vista. Color me surprised and impressed it went so smoothly, especially since this was an early Vista laptop with the bare min in hardware to run 7. I'm curious to see how it's going to fare as 64bit install with 4gb ram when I do the desktop install another day.
In my hunt to try and find Top gear early I downloaded something I should not have. After spending a good 10 hours trying to remove the nastiness it was decided a ground up rebuild was in order. Now running 64 bit Win 7.
Canyon Chaser, I'm getting really tired of the Windows XP slow spiral of death performance wise. (have it on what was a pretty powerful laptop 4+ yrs ago), Upgrading to 7 seems like a waste of money on this box I am seriously considering going the way of the Apple based on this and my previous Windows experience. New box with Win7 is a option as well. I really resonate with the recent Mac ad about the Windows guy flashbacking to every version of Windows and saying "I promise this time we got it down" Could you give some examples of your observation of the Mac's "Kudgy-Ness" ?
Just installed the 64 bit version of Firefox known as Shiretoko, while a few of the plugins do not work the overall performance is light years ahead of the 32 bit version.
Keep us posted - I'll try it after you give a 30 day "all clear" report (Alpha stuff sorta scares me) !
