Nathan, was that link in French going to an oil advertisement? Or ??? Making a point about the engine should be using only French oil? My son works for Total France but lives in Beijing, that is a clue!

Do yourself a favor & buy your MINI parts & filters from our friend Steven at eMINIparts.com. Great service, a true friend to MINI owners.
Regardless of where you choose to purchase, the only choices I believe you should consider are Mann and/or Mahle. Having experienced both, I've had better luck with the Mann fitment.
Warning not all 5W-30 oil meets the ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 and BMW Longlife-01 specs! Mobil1 5W-30 doesn't meet these specs, however Mobil1 0W-40 Mobil1 5W-40 does, the 5W-40 is for turbo diesel trucks. Link
BMW LL oil is the oil suggested for those who choose to do long mileage oil changes. Not really needed if you choose to do a more frequent change.
What Scott said, people insist on oil with the LL designation then change their oil every 3K! I use Mobil 1 5W30 and change it every 10K, I had the valve cover off not too long ago and the engine is clean as a pin inside with 60K on it...... Changing the oil ever 3 or 5K on a modern engine is a waste of time, money and precious resources - and completely unnecessary.
These are both the OEM filters on the gen1 AND GEN3 CARS...both are very well respected filter makers... the gen2 uses a "pureflow" branded filter as the OEM...not so well respected...but guess that since Pugeot cars (the gen2 motor is largely a co engineered french/German project) tend to be so short lived, the cost might have more important to Pugeot, or maybe they were just on the Pugeot "list" as an approved OEM when the choice was made.. The choice is yours (the op's).
Well.... In my case, I have a short drive to work... In the cold months my engine justa bout reaches the operating temperature.... Sometimes, but not always... Not a desirable situation as far as driving off the condensation inside the engine and oil... This puts me into the 5,000 mile oil change just for this reason.... Then I stop driving the MINI towards the end of October... Sooo.... Mileage may vary....
My exception >>> Those of us who like to do it at 5,000 miles regardless of what others think. Guess Metalman gets a pass on this one.
