Way Motor Works, together with the help of GTE and MINI of South Atlanta sponsored a track weekend this past weekend at Little Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in Munford, AL. Many of us arrived on Friday evening, joining up with our friends for some dinner and discussing the upcoming weekend events. Saturday promised to be a full day, so we headed in somewhat early for a evening of rest.

Saturday morning, we all met at the track for a drivers' meeting. Way split the drivers into 4 different groups based on driving experience and the car they drove. He also matched the instructors with all of the student drivers. Each group had approximately 20 minutes on the track per session, with several sessions throughout the day. The weather was sunny and VERY hot, but it didn't stop us from having a great time. The student drivers had a blast learning different techniques from their instructors and by the end of the day, they were feeling quite comfortable with the track. In addition to having fun driving on the track, the students also enjoyed watching their instructors and more experienced drivers during their scheduled track time. When the day of driving ended at 5pm, it was decided that we would meet back up for dinner at 7pm. Great friends, delicious food, and plenty of laughs from the day's events brought Saturday to a close.

Sunday was another sweltering hot day. We all met again in the morning for a short drivers' meeting, and Way paired the students with different instructors for the second day to get them a different perspective. Plenty of track time filled the day, and everyone enjoyed taking a break under the shade trees while they were off the track. In addition to seeing some beautiful MINIs, we also had the opportunity to see a Porsche GT3. The owner was gracious enough to let Way drive it on the track...something he will remember for a long time since he got it sideways! "Mouse", the WMW race car, made many laps throughout the weekend with several different drivers, as well as the WMW just a cooper test car. We ran a couple of "Parade laps" after lunch for the kids in attendance, which was a big hit. The day ended with some free track time, and by 4:30 we were preparing to wrap things up. Everyone remarked that they had a fantastic time and were already looking forward to the next track day. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the sponsors GTE and MINI of South Atlanta again as well as all of the attendees. We couldn't do it without you all, so...Thank you!

Sounds like a good time was had by all, Way. I can imagine that GT3 was a handful and a blast to drive. Hopefully I will make it out to one of these soon... I have my eye on a helmet just for that occasion.
