I had an after school job with a TV repairman (remember those? The job of the future!) back in the early '60s. There were 4 color TVs in town and the only day we could service them was on Saturday mornings because the local stations only color broadcast was that day. They all had to be degaussed at least once a month. We used a large coil of wire and waved it around the screen till all the colors went back to their rightful place. PIA.

I had an old TV that had a Degauss button on it, when the colors got weird you pushed the button and the picture went all squirrely then it would come back with a good picture.

They've sure come a long way from the olden days. Only thing that makes the colors go hinky for me now is one sip of whisky past my bed time too many.
Both ships I served on went thru degaussing during periodic shipyard sessions. It always screwed up some of my equipment which meant a couple days of recalibrating. A 2° error on a 20K yard launch is a huge deviation especially when my box of parts knew the difference between a + and a - 0 volts.
