Someone asked me a tricky question recently: "What is the oldest brand name that became a noun or verb?" Presumably they thought me old enough to have witnessed all human history personally....
In Britain, to clean a carpet by 'Hoovering' it has been in use for maybe 100 years so that's what I suggested, but I wonder what really was the earliest?
