Well, yeah, that's where I was going with that. It's just than in the subtlety department, I was trying to use a feather as opposed to your sledgehammer....:cornut:
I already have a MINI that has more power then a GP -1 but I would like a GP-1. But given the choice of a free car I would absolutly take the Porsche hands down. People need to be realalistic and stop being such MINI fan boys because it's really is no contest. If you are picking the GP-1 over a Porsche you may want have your head examined. Let me guess your favorite color is Potato?....
not that I need to justify my choice.......but this was a choice between two specific cars. If it had been between marques.....no doubt about it, Porsche, just not this one.
I'll drive you to the doctor, I guess I need mine examined too. Slow deep breath.....The MINI is actually more fun on the track than a 996. There, I said it. There is only one car that I've either been in or driven that's more fun on the track than a MINI, and that's a Lotus. It's not about comfort or functionality for me, everyone picks a car for different reasons. If you lined the two up and offered me one or the other, I'd take the GP. Seriously. And mod the heck out of it. It's only money, and it depends on what you're after; people sometimes regret getting the most expensive thing even if it's affordable. Case in point, two years ago I routinely thrashed a guy in an Audi TT at every track we visited, including Road America. Good guy, but he thought he needed something faster than a MINI. So he bought an M3; he sat in a MINI at the dealer, an R56 JCW, while the manager was putting the paperwork together, and started having second thoughts. He went ahead and bought the M3, and still took a thrashing at the track, though not as much in the TT. He sat in my passenger seat once last year, and after he got out, told me he wish he hadn't bought the M3, and he was serious. This is a guy who money means literally nothing, he's got more than he'll ever be able to spend. Hope he gets a MINI for next year. He knows mine is modded, and he flat out said he wish he'd gone that route after running a few laps in my car. I am not filthy rich, but I could afford something more expensive, and prestigous, and sometimes I think about it, but everytime I go to the track, the MINI is so much damned fun that I just can't get rid of it.
I chose the MINI, because if it is the only car I can have, it is a more practical choice for my lifestyle and where I live... Can you even fit a sleeping bag in a 996? How's that Porsche going to treat me after it dumps 6" of snow after a 70 degree day? Is it really small enough to justify driving an $80K car to TacoHell? Now if the toss up was between a GP-1 and a Cayenne Turbo S... That Porsche might be able to live with me.
I think it's a credit to the users of this site that the GP-1 didn't run away with the voting. Sure, we're 'homers', but appreciate a good car when we see one, regardless of the brand (except for Nissan: I HATE Nissan. I'd rather eat my own liver than share the road with one of those only-a-droid-could-love-it GTRs :biggrin5. All right, you asked for it...so here it is! Would you rather... ...or...
*EDIT--picture sized fixed, comment removed, it's no longer funny. It probably wasn't in the first place anyway.
GP while I'd love to have a classic I don't want it to be my only car, and that is part of the game right!!
Damn.......that's a tough one. As a daily I would go with the classic Mini. May need a bit more maintenance, but for me it would be worth a few more "shop" days.
