Each $5000 jump in price brings in a new level of cars. Be it used or new. Under $25,000 and half my list is gone. At $30,000 most of my list is in. The next $5000 jump really only brought in a few more cars. Now jump to $40000 some of the same cars but with higher end options. Maybe the 3 series, a Benz,Lexus, not too much I can think of right off hand. Well theres the high end Subi. I just can't do the 4 door tuner car thing. Sporty car needs to be 2 door, with or without a backseat.
There will be a KIA or two in the bracket, but you only get ONE. I chose $35K because it will be difficult! Yeah you have all the bottom feeder appliances, but its just enough $$$ that some of the cars start getting good! However it counts out a lot of what people want because of the price cap being low enough to make a fully optioned sporty car out of the question. It should be an interesting bracket, but we need people to chime in with cars to pick from.
Can't borrow much money on the average 8 year old car.No different then a then new R-53 @ $28,000 and a years later only worth $15,000 and now maybe $10,000. It's all relative to how much can you afford to spend on a new car. They all go down in value to start with. You eventually have to be willing to spend more money or be willing to buy a used 8 year old car with 30,000-50,000 miles already on it or more. Which intern means you need to have more cash on hand as you can't borrow but so much money on the average 8 year old car.
To hear the "money experts" talk it is only smart to buy any new car if you plan to drive it a long time to get your moneys worth out of it. I paid close to 24,000 for mine new but I've kept it for 8 years so far ( almost 150,000 miles ) so I feel I've gotten my moneys worth out of it for the most part and still going.
Nope I got mine 1 year old used and got a great deal on it because it was a custom ordered car from my local dealer. I had my local dealer look up the VIN and I had the build sheet / order spec sheet before I called the selling dealership. They did not know what they had they said its just a cute little new MINI. What they did know it was a JCW with every option with an LSD and I even got then down another 2k and paid about $20,500. I have had a few years of experience on how dealerships work and how deals are done and this dealer just wanted to get rid of the little red car off the Benz lot.
Well Dave (er, Richard) there is no used cars in the up coming bracket. The cars are being based off of vehicle type, and MSRP... However, what you do to it after you spend the $35 G's or less, that is all on you! So keep that in mind... What car would you buy to go nuts with mod's on...
The best way to buy a new car is when they really want to sell one. End of the month, end of the quarter, end of the fiscal year, end of the year, end of a model. We got my wife's Focus ST new for what 1 year old used ones were selling for. The best deal I ever negotiated was 45% off sticker on the end of the model. It was a 1st gen Probe GT for my mom. The last one they had with 2nd gens on the lot. Mom loved that car.

I'm also a buy-it-used kind of guy. The only time I've bought new is for MINIs and BMWs where we need to develop parts--and I have to admit it hasn't always payed off. Whenever I see a new car for $35k, I think, gee, I could get a 996 turbo for that money, or Gee, I could get a Clownshoe and GP1 for that money. But hey, I'll play the game, and so will Richard, so line 'em up, and I'll vote.
