Imagine I still have not caught up on the highlights since Portugal day2!!!! too many nights working on the Mini.
There's a strange dearth of good video out there, esp. considering it was Australia. Rally Corsica (France) stages started today. It's just 3 stages per day for 3 days this year. Weather in Corsica has been rather severe and Stage 2 today was cancelled due to weather damage to the stage. Pics to come. Big surprises today. Ogier officially retired (will rejoin under Rally 2 tomorrow) but not until after he finished the 3rd stage and his transmission decided to pack up before he made it back through the road section. But he'd already finished the third stage well down the order due to a puncture prior to the post-stage retirement. So, the big surprise is Elfyn Evans leads! His first WRC lead of his career. It started out with a similar surprise as Kubica finished Stage 1 tied in 1st with Ogier. WRC Tour de Corse: Ogier, Kubica tie for lead post-SS1 (crash.net) Full article here.

Stage 4, the first to run tomorrow, was to be a repeat of the stage cancelled today due to road damage, etc. It has already been cancelled, so just two stages tomorrow. They're long stages, though, so still about 85km total.

Ogier struggles for a change and VW take it anyway, this time via Latvala. They also took third thanks to Mikkelsen. Congrats to Elfyn Evans on his best finish ever in second overall! Latvala completes French double (wrc.com)

I knew the weather was bad but apparently you could think of Corsica being in the same sort of shape as South Carolina. Shocking rain totals and lots of damage. Here's a good summary of the rally, esp. if you like hearing about Elfyn Evans' first official visit to a WRC podium. MAXRALLY Corsica wrap maxrally.com

I was surprised to see that the rally organisers felt that this parked car could be left, even with a tree in front of it and tapes all around it. I guess they reckoned whoever left it on the outside exit of a bend deserved whatever they got and that the car presented no more risk to competitors than the tree. Still, it's unusual. It's nice to see Elfyn Evans creeping onto the podium though it was his dad, Gwyndaf Evans, who was always the fan's favourite in Britain - the family ran a Ford dealership, but Gwyndaf at one time had a 'day job' of driving a school bus which is about as cool as a rally driver can get. Otto, eat yer heart out!
