Of all the myriad possible causes for the championship winner to be forced to retire from this rally, who would have guessed... Loeb explains Rally GB exit (wrc.com)
Great form for Kris and team to make it to fourth, Congrats to all!!! Still can't believe Loeb hit a public car going the wrong direction on the track to boot..... How the heck can that happen during a stage??
Exactly! ------------ Other MINIs finish 10th (Araujo, in the points!), 20th (Sordo), 30th (Nobre) and 36th (Oliveira).
Not bad at all. They should be happy with that finish and the entire "development" season. MINI is clearly the team to watch and next season should be a very good one. I look forward to it and the wonderful coverage from Steve. Perhaps M/A should give him the additional title of "Rally Coordinator". His great coverage could bring in many new members. Jim
Steve = resident "RALLYMASTER!!" Yep everyone involved from BMW, MINI, Prodrive and the drivers can hold their heads high, as they have had an astounding developmental season! Well done!!!
Question: What is done in the event there is a "tie" for a podium position? This is handled differently in various sports, so what does the WRC do and has it ever happened before? Jim
+1 . Sure appreciate all of the timely news updates...made it much fun to follow along. Hope we can count on you for next season. :beer
Good question, and I don't know. If I had to guess I'd say they round to tenths of a second when they publish times but keep track of hundredths or maybe even thousandths, just in case. I don't see anything in the rules about it either. Here they are if anyone ever wants to see what they look like: WRC regulations section
Dani Sordo scored 2 points for coming 2nd on the Power Stage and finishes the season in 8th place with 59 points. That's only 4 points behind 7th place and every driver ahead of him competed in all 13 rallies..... I'm not sure why he's listed 8th and H. Solberg is listed 9th even though they both have 59 points. I'll guess it's because the championship points tie breaker is Sordo has more 2nd place finishes (1) than Solberg (0). Kris Meeke scored 12 points for coming 4th overall and finishes the season in 11th place with 25 points. It's hard to imagine how this is possible given he only scored points in 2 rallies but that's what happens when the top teams/cars/drivers are so dominant. Very few points (scraps) shared among those not constantly running at the very front of the field. 2011 WRC Drivers' Championship Standings
WARNING: This is painful to watch, at least it was for me. If some of the comments are to be believed, this hole developed during the rally so no one had it in their pace notes. I'm guessing it didn't get this bad until later in the second run through the stage so no warning and only affecting those lower down the order. The MINI at around the 3min point is Paul Nobre. He seemed to fare better than some others... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BR50J9JnGs]Wales Rally GB 2011 SS16 ( should have been STOPPED!!) - YouTube[/ame]
That was crappy. Hitting that with no warning at all. They were trying to slow them down at one point then they just stopped. :nonod: Jim
Wow that was a hella big gottch for sure. Too bad the marshal's didn't do a bit more to slow the cars down. On the other hand no one seemed to pay attention to them anyhow. That was sort of painful to watch. OUCH!
