1st car was 1950 Olds torpedo body style and within a year got a 1956 j-2 experimental olds engine from wreck involving a train and dropped it in. Had fuel valves welded on to the exhaust and screw off the fuel caps and instant straight pipes. All white paint with white roll and pleat leather upholstery. Was the drag race king of Franklin Blvd in Gastonia NC until went into the military and sold the white elephant.

 

1967 Camaro. My dad grew up in the 50's, total hot rod kind of guy. He & I did a ton of work on the engine. Bought it stock, save headers, 327 w/ a manual 3 speed. Put in a Muncie tranny immediately, and then, over time, built up the engine, replaced almost everything, carb, cam, manifold, headers, exhaust, posi rear end. Still regret selling it today, bought it in 80 sold it in 84

My first car........

My Dad said if i wanted a car I would have to buy it myself. That was in '68.......bought a 1955 Pontiac Star Chief. Had the 287ci V8 with the 3-speed on the tree. First gear was a rabbit off the line. I blew so many 2nd gear syncros I'd buy the trannies from the junk yards for about 6 or 7 dollars and replace the tranny in about a half hour. I always had a couple spares in the garage. Corvair bucket seats......it was hot.

Anyways, mine looked just like this even with the "chrome reverse" wheels except mine was all black, with a dark blue interior. I can't remember if we cut a half or a full coil off the springs to lower it. There was so much chrome on this car, it was quite spectacular. My future wife could tell when I was coming by the interference on the TV from my un-shielded copper plug wires.

 

My First Car

A POS '59 Renault Dauphine (gag, puke) bought in '63. That thing was awful :mad2:. Learned to change a head gasket in 30min with it! Just the memory of that snail eater is enough to make me run out and kiss my MCS right on it's MINI badge. BTW, my first choice was a '58 Morris Minor Woody wagon. Mom took one look in the back and said "NO!". Oh well. :devil:

 

My first car was a 56 Pontiac 4dr, "flesh" (who's?) color over cream. I paid $10 from an Okie who's wife had run off to Nebraska. He stopped at the gas station I worked at late on Sunday night and said if someone would give him $10 he'd gladly sign over the title as he didn't think it would make it back to Oklahoma. I reached in my pocket, pulled out a tenner and I was the proud owner of a thoroughly dirty worn out, bald tired Poncho! :idea:

I bought 2 new blackwall tires for the front of it for $13 ea, changed the oil (all I could afford was non-detergent at .25 a quart) installed a complete dual exhaust system from the manifolds back, topped off the brakes and transmission and then spent a weekend cleaning it out. When I was done I had a pretty good car - it had power steering, windows, locks and factory A/C - very rare on any car of that era, let alone a Pontiac. Drove it all thru high school then sold it to a neighbor for $150 - his wife promptly totaled it (yep, her fault). Fortunately no one was injured.....

The one I really miss tho is my '70 Dino......

 

1984 SAAB 900 Turbo 3-door. 5spd., sunroof. Fun car. Just fast enough to have fun, but not fast enough to kill me. It was silver with a maroon interior. Yes, it looked like a big armadillo...

 

1956 Mercury Montclair ( sp).... OOOOOHHhhhh.... 18 years old/ married/ on the way to Viet Nam. 61 TR3.. 1967 Mustang fast back.. Dee is PG and we need a bigger car...
Blah... balh... 45 years later.. Still have the 67 fastback.. the 06 MCS and She has a 06 330i.

YES! My buddy had one of these in HS. We called it "Southern Spice." Beautiful beast.

Everyone else's first cars are so much cooler than mine: 1993 Ford Explorer, black, named KIT. One cool part: it was 5-speed.

12 years later, it is still spoken about among my friends as "most comfortable shotgun ever."

Before I got my license, I used to practice BACKING it into the garage I had at my mom's house. Why? I have no idea. Perhaps I thought I'd need to make a quick getaway. Sure enough, I slammed it into the side and put a huge dent into the passenger rear door. Never fixed it:mad2:.
