1987 Nissan Maxima with 180,000 miles. I drove it just past the 200K mark when a gal in a Mercedes S-class blew a stop-sign and totaled it for me...

Oh yeah, it was a talking car: "Low Fuel Level", "Your Door is Ajar", "Trunk Open", ect... My dad and I figured out how to change the voice to Japanese... HI-larious.

Mine was a two-tone but it was brown and biege

My dad was kind enough to provide a 1976 Chevy Nova, beige with 8-track player and AM radio, when my brother turned 16 two years before I did (1988). I learned to drive in it, and used it occasionally, but I consider my first car the 1993 Mazda MX6 I bought in 1998.

The first car I paid for was a '57 Ford Fairlane. It had a straight 6 with a 3 speed on the column that would randomly jam when going from 2nd to 3rd. It took 30 minutes to fix it each time, and I never did figure out why it did it. It used almost 2 quarts of oil for every tank of gas. Leaked about half, and burned the rest. I used to pull into gas stations and tell they guy (remember full service?) to fill up the gas, oil, and water. But it was mine, and none of my friends had their own car!

It's fun to read about other's cars. Lot's of VDubs (my second car was a 68 VDub)! And I wish I could have had the muscle cars some of you had. When I was 17 my Dad almost bought a used 66 GTO. I was VERY excited at the time, which is probably why he didn't buy it. He bought the VW instead :mad2:, and gave it to me for my high school graduation 6 months later. I often wonder how different things would have been if he had bought the Goat.

Here's one that'll make you old geezers turn livid green. My best buddy's first car (1962?) was a Triumph TR 2/3 complete with Goodwood 1st place badges and Brooklands fold down screens! OMG did we have fun, even double-dated in it :eek6: !!
PS: His dad was a "poor" San Joaquin Valley dirt farmer, LOL.

Hopefully you would still be here with us. The fact I'm still here amazes me, considering what, and how we drove back in the day.

    First Cars

My father had a side business with a friend restoring old cars. I got a '60 Renault Daulphine for my 13th birthday to rebuild. Sold it when I finished it at 15 (bought a surfboard with the proceeds). Learned to drive on a '52 MGTD before it was sold. First "real" car was a '57 VW Bug, complete with tiny rear window, 36 HP, rattle can spay paint job, and of course no fuel gage (had a valve you opened when you ran out of gas which gave you one more gallon).

    Cheers,
    Greg

My 1st car was a 73 Mini Clubman (square-nose classic Mini, not a station wagon). Great car to learn to drive in. Failed my driving test the 1st time coz the tester didn't like me cornering in 3rd at 50km/h.

1984 Honda Civic base model (1300cc, 4-spd, no AC). Fantastic car, easily capable of 50mpg on the freeway, comfortable, and fairly fun to drive.

It came to pass on night after being shoved into a light pole at ~60mph one night by an out of control 300Z turbo... Sad to see it give its life for mine but it was for a good cause. :)

My first car was a1949 Ford with a straight 8 which my Dad and I swapped out for a flat head V8. I sure had a lot of fun with that ol' car.
