My first car was a Sophia Red '78 Honda Accord. I bought used in '81 when I turned 16. Have loved Honda's ever since. If I didn't own a MINI, I would have a Civic Si.
1950 Plymouth business coupe with a chevy 307, 350 turbo tranny. Not the fastest thing ever, but i loved it my second car was also a 1950 plymouth, but this was the special deluxe, all original. Flat head 6 with a three on the tree. I still have that car. sitting at home in the driveway. third was a 93 lexus with broken radiator, broken AC, broken radio, broken suspension, and ripped seats. fourth was a 02 mini cooper, black fifth is my current 04 mini and now i have a mk5 classic mini.
1975 Ford Torino Sedan 1975 Ford Torino sedan. My first car, came with a donor car to swap parts off of. The original Blue Bomber!!! (not a picture of my car)
It's been a while since we visited this area. With all the new folks that have joined since I thought I'd bring it back around.
I've been car crazy since grade school, I fell in love with T-series MGs after reading Don Stanford's, The Red Car. My first car was a '52 MG TD, I bought it when I was 17, for $700. I still have it! Dave
1986 Toyota Celica GT-S 2.0 Twin Cam. 135hp first year for the FWD Celicas. Had Konis and springs on it to lower it slightly. Replaced the rear swaybar and all the bushings as well. If I could get it back, I would. Phenomenal car for 1986 no doubt.
First car I drove regularly was a 74 VW Camper van, but that was sold pretty quickly as my Mom felt a bit suspicious of me. It was not mine though, it belonged to my Dad, but I drove it a lot. First car that I was the principle driver of was an 84 Renault Alliance. I had the one that worked. Until the electrics got all melty. That was fun. That was one my Dad handed off to me though, I didn't buy it. I actually got that sucker up to 120 MPH on more than one (stupid) occasion. The speedometer pegged at 85, so I was timing myself with the mile markers. Southeast Ohio used to have roads where that could be done, but now it's a bit more populated. Also, I was being very, very stupid. Then I spent a few years living in South Korea and didn't drive. There was no point, really. The first car I bought on my own was a VW Fox, don't remember the year, mid to late 80's I think. It was just something to go to work with. I had it for a year or so. It was unremarkable. Then I got a 96 Subaru Legacy Wagon and drove that for 15~odd years. She had 285,000 miles on her when I traded her for the 08 MCS. Still ran great too. I got $750 on that trade.
'76 Buick Skylark. White with a fire engine red interior. (First car - fast as snot in a straight line with no stop lights, but may be soley responsible for the current gas prices... :eek6 '82 VW Rabbit. (First "performance" car... autocrossed and kicked the crap out of a lot of cars that didn't think it would. :cornut
'87 Nissan Maxima. Bought it with 187,000 miles on it. Drove it to 201,XXX before a lady blew a stop sign and totaled it. Good car. I knew NOTHING about cars when I owned it. It did have that talking warning system in it. You know that nice lady saying things like: "Low Fuel Level", "Door Ajar", "Trunk not sealed", etc.... It was annoying until we found the switch to swap it over to Japanese. That was ALWAYS good for a few looks when my car started talking in Japanese.
My first regularly driven car... 1974 Plymouth Satellite Custom station wagon. Lord, I loved that car. 318ci Police Interceptor and an air-ride suspension. Great car for having everyone along for the same ride. First car 'bought-and-paid-for'... 1975 Chevy Camaro. One of the under-powered base models with the straight 6 250ci under the hood. The best thing about that car was how easy it was to do anything under the hood. Since the bay was big enough to take the big block 8s, having that 250 in there meant there was all sorts of room to be able to reach everything. I paid $400 for it with 173K on the odometer, drove it through college and a little beyond to 246K, and sold it to a guy who wanted the body for making a short-track modified out of... for $500. Not too often you make a profit off a car that old and beat.
1972 Beetle dual port 1600 w/rusted out bellypan. I took that apart and put it back together with a stroker 2180cc that surprised a lot of V8's. That's how I learned how to work on cars. FUN!
I learned to drive in a '61 Baja Bug. My first car was a '73 Cougar XR7. Selling that car was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. Oh well. Motor On! Chris
A Red 1969 Mercury Cougar, 4 speed with a 351 Windsor. My love for hatch backs came from my 1978 Ford Fiesta, lime green, 4 speed, 1.6 liters...loved that car!
My first car was a little red autopia car in Disneyland. I had a thing for convertibles even back then. I moved up to driving my Dad's 66 Mustang when I obtained my learner's permit. At 15 and 1/2 I developed a lead foot and so we had to place sand bags in the trunk to keep me from spinning out. Upon going to college, Dad bought me a 61 VW Beetle with the huge roll back sunroof. Upon graduation and getting my first "real" job, the VW went to my sister and I bought my first car; a 1979 Triumph Spitfire. Nine and a half years later, three engines, a new gas tank, too many clutch master cylinders to count and constant tinkering with the carburetor, oh and a catalytic converter that glowed red hot, I traded in the Spitfire and bought my second car which was a used 1984 BMW 325e. I bought the BMW in 1988 and drove it until 2008 when I bought my MINI. During that 9 and a half year period I bought the 61 VW from my Dad as my sister no longer needed it and I had to have a car to drive when the Spitfire was down or needed parts, which was quite often! (I still have the Bug, check out my Garage). We rebuilt the engine, 1200cc to 1600cc and converted it to 12 volt from 6. My MINI is simply the best car that I have owned and had the privilege of driving. I just adore her. Three months ago I bought 50/50 with my sister, a 1995 Rover Mini that we let our Dad drive for fun. I have loved all of my cars, Spittie, HerrB, the BMW (never did give it a name) MINImowse and now Reggie. But of all of them, MINImowse grabbed my heart the moment that I saw her and hasn't let go since. :yesnod:
1970 Toyota Corona Mark II. Excellent car; should have kept it longer than I did, but I was young and stupid back then.
57 Ford fairlane 500 2 door ht with a 300 police special engine and a 3 speed column shift. The car was black and white
