Name: the mini
It distinguishes it from the other two vehicles in the driveway named the audi and the truck.

About a year after buying my '02 Cooper I'd found a good euro plate bracket and was trying to think of something to put on the plate. I was going for something clever that fit the car or the way it drives or just the unique sort of fun I felt driving it.
One day while wracking my brain trying to pick the "perfect" word/abbreviated phrase, my now late then quite physically and increasingly cognitively disabled wife Celia (she had MS) asked me what I was doing. I explained, never knowing how much she would understand from one day to the next, but she was firing on most of her cylinders that day and when I finished she said "Zippy!"
I'd never considered naming a car and didn't take it that way. Still fixated on thoughts of fun driving or what the car was like or whatever I automatically assumed that was her intent as well, so I asked "why?"
She said "because that's his name!"
This was news to me but given the beautiful, proud smile on her face how could I argue? And why would I? Zippy it is!-

This, mostly original, little car has a lengthy history which began in January of 1970. After a brief Cameo return to the San Francisco dealership in 1997, during their 50 year anniversary celebration, it seems as though it suffered a little mechanical damage and engine compartment fire during a late night spin through the City...
Subsequently, yet begrudgingly, it was purchased back from the then current owner and taken to Huffaker Engineering for a bit of freshening, so to speak. As such, and being a former career firefighter, I thought it fitting to call it "The Phenix", having been given new life - rising again from the ashes, as the legend says...Attached Files:

My sister and her husband bought a brand new yellow VW Bug convertible, with a black top, back when they first got married. My other sister (passed away now) had just returned from Germany (husband was in the Army) and named the VW Gleb Vogeline ("Little Yellow Bird" in German, so the "V" is pronounced as an "F"). They shortened it to "Fogie" (Fo-gie, not Fog-ie, which is why I added a second "G")) and the name stuck. That VW lasted through both of their daughters growing up and taking it to college, so the name was kind of a household word and everyone knew the car. When my sister saw my MINI, the first words out of her mouth was "Fogie". Everyone else reacted the same, so my MINI had a name. Now, "Little Yellow Bird" is not exactly a "guy" kind of name, so when I saw the dragon graphics on the AC site, I figured "Dragons are birds. They fly". I then placed an order for the first yellow dragon roof graphic.
Now, oddly enough, all this happened BEFORE I had any idea what MOTD was. Never heard of it or RT-129. When I did learn about it, I thought it was cool that they had a event based around my car.

My Countryman has all-wheel drive. Mini's moniker of "All4" is top shelf and easily trumps VW's "4motion," Mercedes' "4matic" and BMW's own "xDrive." I've always liked Alexandre Dumas' line from the Three Musketeers, "All for one, one for all." It just works for me and my Mini. So her name (plate) is "ONE 4 ALL."

Sweetie and Ditto
"Sweetie" was custom-ordered. She had everything, and I loved her. When she was only 3 months old, and I was just getting to know her well, we were sitting at a stop light and a drunk driver crashed into us from behind in a Dodge Dually going 82 miles per hour. He never hit his brakes. It was scary, but Sweetie did a miraculous job of protecting my daughter and me.
We survived, but Sweetie died.
When the new car arrived a few months later, she was an exact duplicate of Sweetie. I was happy and sad all at the same time. My husband came up with the name "Ditto", and as soon as I heard that name, I knew that was it!!! It's a different car, but her name honors Sweetie, and the good job she did for my daughter and me.-

My Mini got her name from the magnificent way she tried to self destruct. Whilst driving home one day in the Mini I came up to a stop light and she puttered out. I tried to restart her but nothing happened. That's when someone in a car behind me shouted that there were sparks erupting from under the car. Then smoke started leaking into the cabin. I grabbed my fire extinguisher (it's an original so it's needed) and hopped out. Luckily there was no fire. Found out the main battery lead had come out of it's clips, rested on the LCB (header) and melted the insulation causing the light show and burning up the battery. Her name is now Sparks.

When I was ordering my car, I took an image of a Pepper White MINI with a white roof and used Photoshop to 'paint' the arches.
When I posted the resulting pic to my local board, DickDavid made a comment that it looked very 'stormtrooper'. The father of all stormtroopers is Jango Fett, and the name of 'Jango' seemed to stick.-

:cornut: 'Mini' Margi was named after my lovely wife Lady Margi. When I first named her after my wife, my wife says," So who am I, Big Margi?" One of those questions that almost any answer is WRONG. But thinking quickly I said,"Why no, you're 'Lady' Margi."

RYU is for many reasons.....
First: Ryu means dragon in Japanese.
1. He's green, so are dragons.
2. Hello Kitty is Japanese, so I thought she'd like a friend :biggrin5:
3. It's the year of the dragon, and I just got him.
4. I have a dragon tattoo.
5. it's MOTD 10 this year, and I associate MINIs with the dragon-

Sprout!
I'd never named a car before, but since it appears to be the done thing with Minis, I started thinking about it. (Sprout is my first Mini adventure.) My son suggested Winston, but that didn't feel quite right. Then I remembered the old Jolly Green Giant frozen veggie ads. Sprout is little, green, cute, and spunky, just like the Giant's side-kick. :biggrin5:-

Marrons are the worlds largest crawfish and they are BLUE and mean as hell. I am a chef and I had the chance to cook up these little beauties when I worked at Victoria & Albert's At Walt Disney World. Mean blue crawfish=mean blue roadster.

I'm getting ahead of the game here. I have decided that my next MINI will be a coupe and to me, a coupe should have a "boy" name. Well, we have been watching reruns of all five seasons of the old T.V. show "Alias". One of the main characters is a old school CIA agent, who is so cool. He still wears a tie to work, he never yells freeze, he just shoots. He asks a bad guy a question once, shoots them in the knee cap and asks again. When he gets the answer, he kills them. He never uses judo or karate, like the younger agents, he sucker punches them with a knife or a pipe. This guy is my "hero', so my next car will be named "Jack Bristow".
