I was going to name her something else when she told me her name was "Little Wing." I decided not to argue.

Stirling Moss was my favorite driver (and he drove Coopers) back in the '60s. When I ordered my '05 BRG Cabrio he was going to be 'The Untopable Moss" as a play on Cabrio, Green and Stirling Moss. Unfortunately, before the order was a week old, my old car's transmission died, and I needed a new car in a hurry. Called around to dealers within 500 miles, and found an available Cabrio with everything I wanted except the LSD and only one thing I didn't (Premium Package - who needs automatic temp control and upgraded radio in a Cabrio ) and it was Pure Silver rather than BRG. Well, the play on Stirling for Sterling and Stirling Moss was just too much to ignore - hence 'The Untopable Stirling"

GIR. My daughter got me hooked on a Nickelodeon cartoon called Invader Zim. There is a little robot that is on his own program and just enjoys having fun. There are a few similarities, big eyes, and the little antenna. Couldn't think of a better name to give the GP.

BUSTAH is his name !!! Went to my DMV and (of course) Buster was NOT available (imagine that!!)..soooooo after some deliberation and holding up one of the lines at the DMV I scrawled BUSTAH in one of the 5 name option blocks..the little lady checked it out in her database and (you guessed it!!) NO ONE had used this "made up" name !!!

He is a 2010 Nightfire Red Metallic Cabrio with Tuscan Beige Leather..and Piano Black interior appointments !!! He is our Pride and Joy and we enjoy Motoring about TOPLESS every chance we get !!!:biggrin5:

The late, great singer Cab Calloway was known for his 1931 jazz hit, "Minnie the Moocher." Think "Hidy Hidy Hi," etc. [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnie_The_Moocher"]More info here[/ame]

So... my car's named Moocher the MINI. Which is cute and all, but I always have to explain it. :-(

Walter after my favorite Fringe character. He's kind of retro, eccentric, and not quite normal. But when he has to get the job done he does an outstanding job.

My MINI's plate says it is called MNI STIG but that is just really an inside joke with my son because he put NXT STIG on his truck (can you tell we are huge TopGear fans?) but I never really thought of it as a name. The car really didn't have a name. I don't usually do that but my wife insisted that a car with this much personality needed a name. So since I find it to be a really magical car in so many ways he has been dubbed Merlin!

Among family and friends it's just "The Mini." They don't quite understand the whole naming thing.

Yet between the car & I, it's been christened "James" after actor James McAvoy. One of my hobbies is creative writing and about 2 years ago I came up with my first original idea in ages. The way my mind works I visualize the story as though I was watching a movie. So I tend to "cast" actors to give me a physical reference. Through a series of inspired developments, Mister McAvoy embodies a character that is very dear to me. He's also rekindled my fascination with all things Scottish. Hence why the car's colors match the country's saltire flag.

More importantly he helped me achieve my goal of Mini ownership in a roundabout way. Initially I was saving for a trip to London to see him perform in a play. When it didn't work out, I used the money as a down payment on the car. The name seemed fitting then. :D

I'm largely of German and English descent. However, my maternal Grandmother from North Carolina is all Scottish. Her full maiden name, set forth in the birth certificate, is "Mary Baxter Bell". If you're familiar with Scottish clans and their underlying septs, you'll see the Baxters and Bells are the largest septs attached to Clan Macmillan. I faxed a copy of the birth certificate to Clan Macmillan and mentioned her family's origins in the Borders (Scottish land area abutting England). They ultimately offered me official membership status in Clan Macmillan. Just thought you might find the story interesting.

    Name: RDNZL

I have been a huge Frank Zappa fan since the mid 70's and RDNZL is a instrumental song that starts off slow, builds intensely with just about every instrument and then winds back down much like a twisty back road. Just like the MINI. Homage to the master......
